Overview
Tenebrae Locus
Tenebrae Locus is a land of fantasy, magic, and steampunk. With all of it's realms conflicting, the world seems to be on the brink of destruction.
Tenebrae Locus has the cursed Nefastus, the frozen Cystallos, and the god-filled Regia Superi.
History
From when Tenebrae Locus was created in the strands of fate and destiny, there was born the human race along with countless other creatures specific to the god or goddess they came from. The gods lived in the realm of Regia Superi where they could live their immortal lives in luxury. The creatures they created were placed in Nefastus, a realm of curses and blood. The third and final realm was that of ice, Cystallos. A place where the dead and banished thrive. A place where ancient powers sleep, and the cursed gods roam. As long as the offspring of the gods lived, there was always bloodshed and chaos, but also a fragile human sense of hope and belief in life. For this reason Nefastus is the cursed land, separated from the gods. Only relics dating back 500 cycles could ever have been touched by a god due to the barriers put in place surrounding Regia Superi and Cystallos. Before the gods and their offspring were separated, the malicious intent of a group of gods set off an age of bloodshed lasting 100 cycles. Towards the end of the brutal battle between gods, a pact was made between the tribunal goddesses to sacrifice their lives to make a barrier. The three goddesses blessed their offspring with their ceremonial weapons before sacrificing their life force to the creation of the three new realms. After 500 cycles of boiling, however, the barriers need life vows to renew them, and the offspring of the goddesses aren't ready to give their lives.
Rules
Magic was gifted to specific races almost 500 cycles ago by the gods. Whether or not you have magic depends on your bloodline. Some people are gifted magic for their devotion to a god, but most have their abilities passed down through blood. Some relics also contain magic. Magic can neither be created nor destroyed, but it can be dispersed from where it should be. In most cases when magic has dispersed or changed forms there is no obvious way to change it back. The things you can do with magic are limited to the type of magic you can wield and the strength of your magical abilities. If you have strong magical abilities and can wield all of the six components of magic, fire, water, earth, wind, life, and necromancy, then you would be a very powerful magic user. If you were like the average population, you would have very little magic abilities even in one magical component. Some people are good enough in one component of magic to get a well-paying job, but many manage well without magic. Using magic can be very difficult for people who are just beginning. It helps to have objects that focus the magical energy, like talismans or relics. Higher level magic users carve runes on their palms specific to a certain component of magic. The highest levels of magic users can focus their power through sheer force of will combined with a lot of training. Even if you're more powerful and have more magic within you, someone more experienced in using magic can still be of a higher overall level. Your level depends on the experience and training you have using magic and the overall power you have. The power of your magic is like your stamina; however long you can use magic without it being used up.
In Tenebrae Locus, the laws of physics are only limited to the strength of magic you have. Tenebrae Locus itself is held in place by a complex system of interweaving spells. Since none have the strength to break it, except time itself, Tenebrae Locus and everything in it won't shatter as long as the life force holding it in place remains strong. In the realm of gods, there are land where rivers flow upside down and objects float due to the power of magic dwelling there. The traces of power in the mortal realm allow smaller areas to be affected by magic, but in most areas natural law remains unaffected. In Crystrallos, the magic has, for the most part, died. None of the natural laws are tampered with.
Technology in Tenebrae Locus is mainly powered by magic. More so in the realm of gods, where magic can be found in abundance. In the realm of mortals, magic is commonly used, but steam power is also becoming widespread in popular cities and towns. In Crystallos, the only thing close to technology are old relics with whispers of ancient power remaining in them.
