Sci-fantasy
Massive and gritty. Humans rule the stars.
History
Humans now lay claim to hundreds of thousands of worlds in the Milky Way galaxy, even a few in other galaxies. Mankind is not united. Three major factions wrestle against each other for power and territory while hundreds of minor factions fight for the scraps.
Ever since the discovery of the Grit, humans have been able to quickly move through the cosmos. Grit can be harvested from any living material. Be it tree's or people. It is abundant but in very high demand. It's used as a catalyst in opening wormholes to hyperspace and also in casting powerful incantations. Once in hyperspace you can travel anywhere in days, weeks, or months, instead of thousands of years.
Flying through hyperspace is dangerous, space is compressed and folded into extra dimensions. Without the powerful navigation computers it would be impossible to find your way anywhere. Over thousands of years, beacons have been left behind in hyperspace that contain instructions on how to reach specific destinations, like a road map. A straight line isn't a straight line in hyperspace. Many of the calculations are done before entering the wormhole, but they may become unreliable as conditions can change inside.
Other species have also taken to the stars, but few have done this to the extent of the human race. Some see humans as barbaric and a scourge to the galaxy. Many of the other races could put up a fair fight against the human factions, but few stand a chance of wiping them out. One possible threat to mankind is the Hellion race. Discovered and named by survivors of a colony ship which was destroyed in a distant galaxy. The colony ships weapons had no effect and was aptly destroyed by what was described as a swarm of demons. Apparently one of the escort ships escaped through a wormhole and made it back to the milky way. There have been no reports of these creatures in the Milky Way yet.
All three civilzations on the Kardashev scale are between 1 and 2 but closer to 2. Humans and their robot counterparts are capable of changing planetary orbits and harvesting massive amounts of energy from stars. Dyson like structures the size of thousands of planets have been constructed and are a site to behold. No one has yet built a complete dyson sphere. The Astras Empire has one in the works, several rings have been built, one of them is partially habitable, once complete their will be enough land mass to house civilizations of several galaxies.
Rules
Highly advanced. Wormholes into hyperspace, teleportation of non living material, advanced ai, androids, dyson sphere.
It uses grit as a catalyst. Power points are used as described in the savage worlds core book. Lore wise it uses a persons grit each time they cast a spell. They have a pool of grit which is their PPE and it slowly regenerates over time and so does their total grit.
Realistic, but allowing for hyperspace travel and magic.
Archetypes
NanoWarrior
Person who has spent their fortune getting an implant to control a swarm of nanites. The nanites can form a sword and shield. Provide armor, or mobile cover. They can create simple machines or tools. Easily hideable. Can enter a life form and give off a poison effect, cannot instant kill this way.
