History

History

Before the rise of kingdoms and empires, the world was ruled by Dragons.

Humans were gifted intelligence by Dragons so they might better serve them. However, not content with this, many humans fled until they reached a land far from their dragon masters. Here they developed civilization, until they were discovered by the dragons once again. The refused to return to the dragons, and so the dragons left them, content with the humans they still had with them.

Across all Fire Emblem worlds, there is a constant among dragons: old dragons degenerate into madness. One such senile dragon, driven off by his species, found his way to the budding human civilization. In his madness, he wreaked destruction upon the helpless masses.

Dragons have one weakness: Other dragons. Their impenetrable scales can only cover so much, and if a vital organ or nerve is not protected, it can be struck. Ordinarily, this would have no effect, but if struck with the fang or claw of another dragon, the victim must harden it`s skin and hibernate until it has recovered. If struck simultaneously by two or more fangs or claws, the dragon dies.

One particular dragon took pity on the human civilization, and gifted them one of her fangs to be fashioned into a blade that could put the senile dragon to sleep. Using this weapon, Humans were able to fend off the senile dragon whenever it awoke. However, the dragon who gave her fang was made the target of outrage among her kin. She was instructed to never give another fang to humans, so that they would never have the means to kill a dragon. She was exiled, and forced to live near humans, apart from other dragons.

After centuries, the humans grew tired of having to put the senile dragon to sleep over and over again. They pleaded with the exiled dragon for another fang with which to kill the senile dragon. The Exile had sword never to give up another fang, so she gave one of her claws to be fashioned into a weapon. When the dragons heard, they were enraged. They turned on the Exile and, using their fangs and claws, killed her. Then they gave the human civilization an ultimatum: After killing the senile dragon, they were to return the weapons to the dragons or be destroyed.

The humans complied, unwilling to attempt to fight many dragons at once. Once the senile dragon was dead, a single human met with five dragons to hand over the weapons. Once the dragons left, the humans turned to the corpse of the senile dragon. They fashioned its fangs and claws into weapons, its scales into armour, it`s bones into buildings. They tried to keep this secret from the dragons, but they eventually learned of the fate of the senile dragon.

Two dragons appeared to wipe out the humans. Using the weapons and armour from the senile dragon, the humans defeated and killed the dragons. They used their fangs, claws, scales, and bones like they had the senile dragon. With the weapons they created, the humans were able to kill any dragon that came for them. After many dragons were slain, they stopped coming. It was as if they had retreated in fear, or were entirely wiped out.

Without the threat of dragons, human civilization grew out of control. Of course, just because there were no dragons didn't mean there was peace. Humans still fight among themselves, and weapons made form dragons are highly coveted.
