I want to write a story based around a deaf girl. Anything I should keep in mind?

Here's 2 I know:

My friend's sister is deaf, and he always says that it's not a disability, it's a superability so her other senses are stronger.
Just because a person is deaf doesn't mean they can read lips perfectly

There's actually a Forum where Deaf/Hard of Hearing people interact with each other. I would suggest reading through some threads there and seeing what you can learn - though I would also recommend not actually posting your own thread to ask for help (it seems to be something they're used to and quite tired of). Just read what's already there, it gives you a much more immersive look into the culture and community.
