I'm glad a MC is queer, but I wish it had been handled better. For example, more buildup with Will being an important character and stuff instead of being dragged in for a handful of scenes in the last 2 books. And that Nico was outed by Eros, I thought that we were done with forced outing in books.
Oh my stars no that was like my third favorite parts of the books (cough as was Dumbledore's cough)
And the thing with Percy was wrong. Make him gay if you want sure. But that stuff was not gay in book three. If it was done later, say in book five it would work far better.

We were seeing it from Percy's POV, when he was already paranoid that Annabeth was dead. And Nico was like 12 then, he might not have even known his sexuality until he got a crush on Percy later on. And how is Nico's crush on Percy 'wrong' but Frank and Hazel's 3 year gap not?
Well the crush on Percy itself isn't wrong. You know my stance so hopefully you know what I mean. It's that it was said to be at that age when I know Rick did not write it as a crush and just repurposed it later.
And the age gap is nothing. That's just modern American sensibilities. Also it mirrors the relationship I was talking about the other day with my boy god so that's something to think about.

I feel like unless we saw it from Nico's POV, we don't know if it was a crush. I know from experience that Nico's gushing about something he's into that connects to Percy reads a lot like finding a common interest with your crush (and since he was young and probably didn't even know what the word gay means in a modern context, he probably wasn't sure yet himself). Crushes manifest differently for everyone, and at age 13 that's definitely how I would have handled one, even if it's not how you would have, or Leo would have, or Emmy would have.

If they were both in there 20s, I wouldn't care, but she's what, 13? And he's 16/17. Still a big difference in maturity and mentality, and as a 15 year old I could never even consider 'dating' a 12 year old.
