Then I'll fight him.
And the boy who likes the original series the best.
Same.
Although I do have a copy of House of Hades since it was free and by far the best new one.
By far the best? Do tell why.

Because the other ones aren't that good and HoH was the strongest. Blood of Olympus was the worst.
What was so bad about BoO? I have my own opinions on why it was bad but what are yours?

- No casualties that meant anything
- Anticlimactic
- Super high stakes that got defeated with no struggle
- Everyone got paired off into a ship
I thought reason 1 and 4 was ok, plenty of books pair people into ships and don’t kill anyone important (the Lunar Chronicles, for example), but 2 and 3 — yeah, that’s why BoO had so much deus ex machina.
Personally, though, I think Rick realized his mistake of pairing everyone off and lack of death because just look at what happened in The Burning Maze…

But in TLC, people still got hurt in the final fight, and they weren't 100% the same after.
In BoO, the one death comes back to life. And also got shoved with a girl who literally hadn't been relevant for five books.
Don’t touch Wolf- that little hufflepuff.

Spoiler - click to show.Cress got stabbed and nearly died, Thorne and Scarlet lost fingers, Cinder barely made it, Winter had a complete breakdown, Wolf got mutilated more, and we still had Maha die earlier in the story. In BoO, the one death comes back to life. I agree - did anyone actually like x after BotL? She kind of turned into a bitch and her personality does NOT mesh well with y’s. Not to mention that the ships are all completely heterosexual, which, honestly, annoys me more than x and y getting together.

Yeah, the one gay ship gets thrown together after 1 was basically a background character for several books. And tbh it's a very stereotypical "nice guy/emo guy" ship.
Wb Alex?

Good point.

Omg, I forgot about the one gay ship. I’ve seen a lot of love for it from the fandom, but in my completely honest and unwanted opinion, I doubt we’d like it as much if it was a straight ship.

If it were a straight ship, it'd be another "Broody/Sunshine" ship, which is overdone imo.
People only hype it because it's gay rep in a middle grade series, they barely have any interaction as a couple until ToA.
I didn't like Nico being gay. It wasn't Dumbledore bad but…
I sincerely disagree… It added to his character and enhanced our understanding of his suffering? I'm hoping here that you have actual reasons to disliking his sexuality other than stupid ignorance and hate?
Bottom line, Percabeth, and Solangelo are legally amazing. This is more fact than opinion for multiple reasons and in finality, the authors choice. Watch me fight you for this. (with reason, im a smol bean lol)

If you can’t find a reason beyond those two though it seems your scope is limited.

Jyn critiques it better than I did.

Absolutely not, I'm afraid that these are the most common reasons for people who find sexuality as a thing to critic even in simple books. Also, nice to chat again with you Al

Where did we meet before? The awkward moment when you have made so many people annoyed and can’t remember them.
But what do you have to say against the point Jyn made? Which I would point out, does not fit your dichotomy.

maybe that says something more about you than them… Ha, it was a couple of months ago, something about PJ vs HP. A very sophisticated and very very extensive debate

Jyn has actually contradicted herself here… a couple of months ago when we chatted she made a few different points against this… We mostly spoke of how Solangelo could use a lot more work then it had, OBVIOUSLY, but that we could see the benefits of it. I'm surprised she'd say what she did because I wouldn't believe it to be true personally… In any case, as the newer books come out the ship will progress further no doubt. Thoughts?

The thing I have the most problem with is Riordan screaming diVeRSItY out of the pages of the book. I have nothing against true diversity. What I have a loathing for is the Token _____ Character. And that’s what this was. And it wasn’t even done well!
That is what pisses me off. Not diversity. But using gay/black/Muslim/etc. people as a device to make money off of. Plus the terrible quality of the story, especially because it pushes ideals so over the top it blocks the story. I feel he wants diverse characters that is great. He’s probably only caving to social pressures at the moment. But if he truly wanted them without the movements supporting him I would be much happier about it. Look at Spiderverse. There was some well done diversity. And one of the reasons it was so good was that they didn’t make a big deal out of it. Spider-Man is now black. Nobody questioned it. He speaks Spanish because of his mother. No comment. And that’s what makes it so good. That is the real diversity we want. No shoving it in our faces, but making a narrative where your diversity doesn’t matter because it is completely unquestioned and not an issue. And Riordan failed that. Hard.
