After a couple of hours, while Rantaro was still asleep, a doctor approached them. "So, for updates on the patient, things aren't looking too good for him…" they sighed. "He already had some form of potentially lethal illness before this happened, and in combination with what's happening now, there's a chance that he won't get better… We will try everything we've got, but it's unlikely that he'll wake up soon," they informed Kokichi before looking at Rantaro. "Is he alright?"

“ he's exhausted “ kokichi whispered
The doctor nodded. "Makes sense. I'm not sure how you're gonna tell him about what's going on with his boyfriend, though…" they whispered back, sighing. "Last time it sent him into a severe anxiety attack…"
“ yeah,. I'll break it to him easy..”
"Good. Then just try to calm him before he breaks down again…"
“ I will..”
The doctor nodded. "Thank you. I need to go now, but thank you for looking out for your friend," they said softly before leaving.
Rantaro was deeply sleeping at the time, completely unaware of what was going on or what he had been told. He even seemed to have a small smile on his face, so he appeared to be dreaming of something pleasant, completely unaware of reality.
Kokichi gave a weak side and let rantaro sleep.. “ I am so sorry buddy..”
Rantaro had no idea what was going on, continuing to sleep peacefully for another few hours. He truly needed all of the sleep, though. The five hours he spent sleeping helped him regain energy and strength, so he was doing a lot better after waking up. He remained a bit worried, but upon first waking up, he was too tired to acknowledge that. He had momentarily forgotten about what was going on.
"Mm…" he mumbled sleepily, looking up to see Kokichi. "Oh, hey, Ko…"
Hey taro..” he said softy “ so.. Got some news on kaito..”
Rantaro sat up before responding. "Oh, you did…?" he asked softly. "How's he doing…?"
“ Well, how to I put this..” kokichi thought for a moment. “ he's dying..”
"He…he's dying…?!" Rantaro asked, taken aback. "You…you have to be lying…! Ko, this…isn't a nice thing to lie about…but it can't be true…! He can't be dying…!"
Kokichi gave him an earnest look, “ taro.. I'm so sorry..”
Rantaro hugged Kokichi tightly as he began to cry. "I…I just…made him mine…a-and now…he's gonna die…?! R-really…?!"
“ yes taro, so please.. Spend time with him when he wakes up..”
Rantaro nodded. "I…I will…" he replied. "I just…how…how long…until then…? He…he will…wake up…r-right…?"
“ Eventually yes”
"Okay…" Rantaro sighed softly. "Do you…know…how long…he has left…?"
“ no I don't..”
"O-okay… Can we…see him…?"
“ maybe in a bit.,”
Rantaro nodded. "Okay…" he sighed, just wishing that it didn't have to end with Kaito dying.
“ will go see him in a minute “
Rantaro nodded, not wanting to say much as he tried to process it all.
Kokichi sighed softly “ I'm sorry..”
Rantaro shook his head. He still didn't want to talk, but he wanted to let Kokichi know that there was nothing to be sorry for. As much as the current events hurt Rantaro, death is something that comes naturally.
“ did you know he was already sick?”
Rantaro shook his shead again. "Not aside from…from what started yesterday…"
“ he's had this illness for awhile now..”
