I also think that it's disrespectful that at football games, when the band performs, people are still yelling and taking loud. I get that it's a football game, and you may not be there to see the band, but we're still part of the school, and we deserve as much respect as any other team.
Band Kids?
I agree @CorbinB3 There was this one game we went to where the opposing team's band came to play as well (we only have 1 field in our county and it's at my school so we're normally the home team.) and the announcers were announcing our band director and that we'd be playing the "Star Spangled Banner" for the game. But the other band decided to play a different song at the same time and they didn't stop, despite the fact that we were supposed to playing the national anthem. We had to wait three minutes for them to finish the song and even then, they were shouting and talking during our playing (they had their hand over their heart and hats off and everything but they were shouting the lyrics and stuff and just being really disrespectful in general)
If it was me, I would have went over and shoved a tuba over the band directors head…
I'm a clarinet!! Glad there are other band people on here!
If it was me, I would have went over and shoved a tuba over the band directors head…
XD that would have been funny to watch!
I know. Then there was a potential that he would lose his balance, and i would help him out with that… Off the riser.
I will be back in 2 days bc I am going on a band trip… yay…
Have fun and good luck! (it's a competition right?)
group
I used to play trombone, but I play the piano now.
@MK
With the national anthem thing, that's not only disrespectful to the band playing, but a lot of people get really upset about being disrespectful during the national anthem.
It is disrespectful towards the band but like you said @CorbinB3 a lot of people got really mad at them and were yelling at them afterwards about how they shouldn't do that
Clarinet!!!!!!! :D I also play piano!!
Clarinets are here!!!
Nice! I play piano too! What piece/composer are you working on this year @WingardiumLeviAnna?
It's so weird that bands aren't friends with each other in some places. All of the schools, bands, and even sports teams are really supportive of each other. Many of us know each other from mixed school district bands. Do you guys have a way for students from different schools to meet, talk, and play with each other?
Yeah, but we only have one and that's every other year, if we're not counting competitions. A lot of my friends from middle school went to different high schools and we're still really good friends, it's really just our rivals that we don't get along with and that's really only the sports teams, not the music/arts programs.
I am back, and yeah, it was a competition. We got 3rd.
That's great! Good job!! :D
It would have been better if our drum major didn't get overexcited and fall off of the podium. real funny moment, but that isn't what caused us to lose points. Our soloists didn't practice, and they screwed up pretty badly…
Aww, I'm sorry. Our drum major fell of the podium too this year, she had gotten super excited in the stands when our sucky football team actually made a touchdown and she started jumping and then she was gone. She didn't fall too hard though so it's okay XD
The falling off the podium was the best part. Her trying to get back up and fix herself, and trying to keep time was hilarious.
I agree, that's the best part when they're frantically trying to get back in time and figure out where they were XD
We were fine. We knew where we were, and our tuba soloist got her back on track.
Sorry Sousaphone. I get symphonic band mixed up so much.
Me too, the tubas and percussionists get so mad about those things XD
They reee all the way if you mess up the names of the instruments or their names
Well, the trumpet section does that too. One of the cornets called themselves a trumpet and we flipped out on them because a cornet is not a trumpet XD
That greatly triggers me…
A cornet sounds almost muffled, and it sounds warmer.
I like them better that the trumpet, because it is easier to listen to.
