I agree about love triangles as well. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've already said as much in this thread already, but I gotta say it again because to reiterate how much I absolutely hate love triangles.

Also, authors writing about love triangles is absolutely wild to me because disliking love triangles isn't even an unpopular opinion. I've been watched a lot of people do the unpopular opinion book tag and there's a question that asks what trope are you tired of seeing, and like practically everyone says love triangles. So many people are sick of love triangles, so why keep writing them? Find a better way to make your story more interesting.

But there are other ways to add tension without forcing a love triangle.

I don't mind love triangles if they're done well, but they're so rarely done well at all.
And honestly like, I don't even consider THG to be a love triangle because I knew who Katniss would end up with from the beginning.
I HATE the love triangles where the MC has known one character their entire life and suddenly sees another character and falls head over heels for them. Like in Matched, which I'm rereading because I needed some fluffy dystopian nonsense.

I just wanted to say that they're not even love triangles. It's just a love line…? Is that even a thing. For example, let's say we have A, B, and C. A's the protagonist so B and C like A. B and C should also like each other, which is a true love triangle.

Yeah! I'd love to see a love triangle where B and C are exes, or sorting out their feelings, or are just like…really good friends? Something to add to the tension beyond "WHICH HOT STRAIGHT WHITE GUY WILL I CHOOSE??? THE BAD BOY OR THE 'NICE GUY'??"

ugh. When I read Matched years ago, I was so mad that she chose that….dude….struggles to remember his name over the best friend character. I loved the best friend character. I really didn't like the other dude. (Then again, I did read the series years ago, so I don't remember much about it).

Yeah Xander was obviously the better choice than Ki…..I never continued the series (I got like 15 pages into Crossed before returning them) but I sometimes reread the first one

YES! THAT'D BE SUCH A GOOD RESOLUTION! Or with B and C realizing they've only been fighting because they're jealous of A and want to be together.

Going back to the 'half human-half whatever' hybrids, I feel obligated to inform you all that my newest OC (who snuck into my head like 10 minutes ago) Lucas of Galantaea Hill, is half-human-half-fae and inherited like…..all of the negative traits. He isn't immortal, he can't lie, and he gets really sick if he touches ash wood or iron.
His life kinda sucks

He straight-up gets murdered because after he finds out he's half-fae and processes it, he comes to the immidiate conclusion he's now immortal and just fucking sprints after the abusive dickwad that kidnapped the woman he loves and fights him. His last words are basically "I'm immortal."
And then his girlfriend goes berserk and threatens to pull a Romeo and Juliet unless Oleander (the overdramatic abusive dickwad) brings him back, so Oleander reluctantly does and Oleander then takes off with the girlfriend.
