Blood Oath (O/O CLOSED)

“Of course,” I said, flicking her across the forehead. “Do you even need to ask? You already know where they are.”

I scrunched my nose at his hand, but was quickly chuckling and moving towards the wardrobe. “Love you~”

“Love you, too, my Queen,” I chuckled at her, lying down on the bed. “If you want to shower, go right ahead.”

I few minutes later, I was stepping beneath the flow of warm water, closing my eyes as my skin was scrubbed clean of sweat and grime.

I laid back, eyes closed as I waited for Elle to come back. She was such a trouble, but I loved her nonetheless.

Finally, I slipped from the bathroom with a fluffy towel wound around my hair. I tentatively approached Colton’s bedside, tugging at my sleeve.

I had my eyes closed, resting on the mattress with my hands behind my head when I heard the bathroom door open and close. I slowly opened my eyes, meeting the flushed cheeks of my girlfriend as she hesitantly approached me. I smiled.

“You know, you could remove the water from your hair to dry it,” I said in amusement before I picked myself up to make more space for her. When she had left to shower, I slipped my shirt back on. I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable by sleeping against a bare chest.

"Shhh…." I answered teasingly, settling on the bed beside him. "It's more fun this way."

I pulled her down, pressing her back closer to my chest.

“Is it?” I murmured, heating up my body for her to feel warmer.

I burrowed deeper into his embrace, letting a sigh of contentment slip past my lips. "You're like a warm marshmallow….."

I chuckled at her comment.

“I am many things, love, but I don’t think a marshmallow fits the list,” I kissed her neck, breathing in her scent.

"You're soft.." I murmured sleepily, "And warm.." Propping myself up on one elbow, I raised a hand to prod his cheek. "And squishy. Therefor, you're a marshmallow."

I snorted, shaking my head and snatching her hand to give it a light kiss. “Whatever you say, my Queen. If you say I’m a marshmallow, then I’m a marshmallow.”

"Mm." Chuckling, I lowered myself back onto the bed. "I'm glad we've reached an agreement."

I pulled the covers over us, pecking her cheek lightly. “Take the towel off and go to sleep.”

I reluctantly tugged the towel from my hair and slung it over the end of the bed. "Kiss me?"

I set my hand on her cheek, leaning in to kiss the corner of her mouth. “There you go…”

"Colton.." I complained sleepily, leaning in for a longer one."

I laughed before obliging, leaning in and firmly clasping our lips together in a gentle kiss. “That better?”

"Mmhm…" I mumbled. Burying my face in his chest, I murmured a slurred 'gnight'… and was out like a light.

I laid there for a while, using my flames as a light source to look down at my girlfriend. I ran my fingers through her wet hairs, smiling softly. Finally, I kissed her head, pulled her closer, and joined her sleep.

And woke in nightmares.

Hours later, I was awoken by Colton, shifting beside me in his sleep. I yawned, muttering something under my breath, but when I opened my eyes, I was met with a heart-wrenching sight.

Smoke filled my lungs, rendering me helpless and suffocating. Fire burned my eyes and I squeezed them shut, black ash coating my cheeks. I could barely stand, but one command and I stood on my feet.

When I finally looked around, the world was on fire. It was burning mad, and it was burning black. My flames. Those were my flames. And through them emerged my beloved Queen, eyes fiery, a sword in her hands.

It wasn’t me she was heading for, but something behind me. Desperately, I looked behind me to see Ariadne, a cruel smile on her features as Elle closed the distance and aimed to cut down the enemy.

And I watched Ariadne behead my lover right in front of my eyes.

A scream tore through me, aching, full of pain.

"Colton?" I was immediately pushing myself up and reaching for his shoulder, trying to shake him awake. Weak, trembling, and whimpering, he didn't respond. "Colton!"

I tried again.

I lost myself to the madness. Everything went in circles—Elle stood up, held up her sword, and I constantly watched the witch cut her down.

“—on! Colton!” My eyes snapped open and I sat up, drenched in sweat. I panted heavily, looking around to find Elle. When I did, I immediately pulled her towards me, holding her tightly, digging my face in the crook of her neck.

And I broke.

“Oh, thank god…” I breathed, wrapping my arms securely around him and straightening until his head was pressed against my chest. “Breathe, love. I’m here. Kk right here…”

I held her like my life depended on it. I broke down crying, clinging to her as if I couldn’t believe she was with me.

I pulled away to look at her throat, feeling it under my fingers before I pressed my lips to the skin, kissing it.

“Elle…” I rasped out. “You’re okay…

Worry flooded my system.

“Cole?” I gently raised his chin until his eyes were looked straight into mine. Brushing away each tear on his devastatingly beautiful face, I leaned closer. “Cole, what’s wrong? What happened?”

The images of her blood splatters filled my mind, the realistic squelch of her head falling to the blood-soaked ground. I felt nauseated. I immediately pressed our lips together, pulling her closer, wanting to feel her, wanting to feel her heart beat against my skin. My Elle. My Queen. The day this nightmare comes true would be the day I would die. I would never let anyone bring harm to the future queen of this kingdom. Over my dead body.
