"So are you." He said it more softly and closed his eyes. He felt happy and satisfied.

Kate smiled. This was pure bliss. Her eyes happened to glance at the time. "I should be going now," she whispered like it was a big secret.
August was a little alarmed. "Well if you say so.", he said, trying to sound casual. "Come back anytime."
"I know," she said with a grin. "You say that every time. And don't worry - my mother's just expecting me for dinner a little earlier tonight."
"Okay! Anything special?"
Kate nodded excitedly. "My dad's coming home from his business trip to Europe!" she squealed.
"That's great! I'm so happy for you!", he said excitedly. He paused and pushed away what memory he had with his own father then continued to smile.
Kare realized what she'd said. "Oh, sorry, Auggie, I didn't mean to…"
"No it's fine! This is about you!", he said, a little too happily.
She smoothed his hair lovingly. "Are you doing okay?" she asked softly.
"Yep!" Okay… maybe not exactly, but why ruin something happy for Kate? I'd rather just be happy too.
"I don't want to ever see you again!" So be it…
"Are you sure?" she asked, looking into his eyes.
"Well… yeah.", he said more softly.
"Mmm… no, you're not," she said firmly. "Counseling with Kate: What's wrong?"
"Kate, just let me pretend. It's better for the both of us.", he sighed.
She reluctantly gave up. "Fine," she sighed, getting up off the couch.
"Have fun with your dad!" August smiled again.
"Do you want to come?" she offered, putting on her jacket.
August smiled for real this time. "Yes please!" He bounced over to get his jacket.
Kate smiled. She knew that her parents adored him, and it would be no problem. She shot off a quick text to her mom and waited for him to get his jacket on. "Wanna take all night?" she teased.
"For what?", he asked. He could be so dumb sometimes. He zipped up his jacket and took the key.
She laughed. "Getting ready to go. Silly…"
"I'm ready!", he said eagerly. He was so happy to come along.
She giggled and opened the door to his apartment. "Then what are we waiting for?" she asked.
"You!", he said as he ran out of the door and down the hallway.
Kate's mouth dropped open and she shut his door to hurry after him. "Hey!" she cried, chasing him until she caught him, completely out of breath.
"Come on!", he yelled enthusiastically.
She laughed, squeezing into the elevator right before it shut. "You know, I hear about this crazy thing called waiting for your girlfriend!"
"That's crazy!", he laughed.
"I know!" she retorted, trying to look serious but completely failing.
