"Well, it can't be helped." he moved away from Robert coldly. He talked to the worker again, and they managed to procure some of the money for him-enough to live and eat on, and enough for Robert's current predicament. Margaret hadn't heard, actually, she was too busy keeping Esme busy (the place was quite loud and overwhelming) but Anna gave a sharp, approving nod.
gay-thic lit anyone? (o/o)
(Just to clarify, is Robert given money or not? Sorry I just… dumb and don’t know how things work as I am a young lass)
(Oh, he gave Robert money.)
Robert furrowed his brow at Victor’s reply. He didn’t mind the coldness, but what did he mean? What can’t be helped? Was he missing something? He briefly shook his head, deciding not to think about it too hard. If he asked about it, he probably wasn’t going to get a helpful answer.
How ironic that Anna did hear him, but it was at least the thing he meant to be heard. He gave her a smile after gratefully taking the money and stopping for a minute to put it in his briefcase. He briefly shook Victor’s hand, saying, “Thank you, thank you,” then he walked over to Anna and Margaret.
“We- or I, still need to go to the docks, and then I could pay Uncle Benjamin up front. Although, we might want to look for the giant fellow.”
“Right here.” the taller said, approaching from behind Robert. “I lost you, you are all quite short and it is difficult to easily locate you. I simply looked for signs that said “bank” on them until I found you, a simple enough system until I remembered I looked like me.” he tugged his shawl around his face a bit harder. “Most assumed I was trying to rob the place. I didn’t know you could have more than one bank.” he admitted sheepishly.
“I’m sure it’s all bygones by now, come along creation. Robert here is quite busy, and so are the rest. We’re going to find a place to live.” Victor said, seemingly upset. But why would he be? That was what he wanted, right?
Robert turned to see him and laughed. “There you are. Well, that’s one less thing to worry about. However, let’s hope no one here starts panicking.”
Then he turned to Victor. “Oh, no need to be too hasty. I don’t mind your company, it makes busy trips like these more bearable. Besides, where would you go? Did you read the paper this morning, find a plot of land for sale? Although, perhaps you don’t want to come with me to the docks just for me to pay people.” Here he chuckled at himself. “Still, your company would be appreciated, but I suppose I can’t tell you what to do.”
He found himself feeling very chatty and bright, even more so now that he could pay off his family’s debt. He didn’t want to go to docks alone if the girls still had things to do elsewhere, and he thought Victor sounded reluctant to leave. Strange, but once again, Robert didn’t want to think about it too hard.
“I er, thought you just asked whoever ran a building and saw if there were any flats available. My brother always said… but of course, he would be lying, or misinformed. I’ll still try, I really must leave.” because, Robert, you keep making me feel the strangest things and it truly is frustrating to see, Victor didn’t say. Instead, he continued, “I will only harm you and your family as long as I am around. Anna… she is not fond of me by any means, that is plain to see… I promised your niece friendship, but only to keep her from making the same mistakes I made. She is a bright young soul who will go far someday, but… I must leave you as you have been far too kind already.”

Robert shrugged. "I could be wrong too, that just how I always heard it was done." Then his expression turned solemn. "Alright. Though I will say, you haven't harmed us yet, even if you've only stayed with us for a day." He managed a smile. "Well, good luck. I hope you'll keep in touch."
He turned to the girls. "I'm off to the docks. If you don't have any other errands to attend to, would you join me?"
(Should I do a sort of time-skip-y thing to get the plot moving some more or what? I don't know.)
(If you think we need to, I don’t mind)
(I don't think we need to, but I feel… slow today and I don't know.)
(That’s alright, I feel you. I honestly don’t care what we do, and if you need time before you feel ready to post, that’s fine too)
(I'm just gonna post some… stuff, see if it's any good, and even if it isn't I'll probably still post it cuz why not.)
Anna smiled. "Of course we can, my dearest brother-in-law. Leave Victor to his folly, now." her smile turned a bit evil, just for an instant. She didn't particularly care for the silly little man, and was secretly a bit glad to be rid of him despite how she was somewhat fond of the taller. "I'm joking of course. I'll be seeing you around, Frankensteins. Believe me, I'll find a way to keep an eye on you."
Victor smiled faintly, waved some, and walked away. Now for the hard part, finding a home. He did some inquiries, and the place he was able to find was large and a bit dingy, but still fairly good for the price. He rented out a small place for his creation, the wretch probably wanted his own space and he could pay, at least for a little while.
A few months later, Victor was a wreck. He'd heard no reply from Ernest, he had no prospects for work and it was his creation who was keeping them both afloat working at the docks, and in that very little came in. He'd been spending recklessly, to keep… secrets. Even his creation knew not what was in the hidden rooms, the rooms Victor stayed in for hours on end working tirelessly and kept coming out of looking haggard and worn.
Eventually, the wretch confronted him. Demon he was, he looked so damn smug about things, and Victor wasn't sure if he was seeing wrong or if the fiend's teeth had lengthened and sharpened in great proportions.
From the creature's perspective, he was just trying to help. But…
"Leave me be!"
"No! You refuse to eat, drink, sleep, you work in your private rooms without end and I'm sick of it! I'm going to bring in, well, someone, to fix this, whether it be the Savilles or your Walton or-"
"Implying Robert is in any way mine is completely preposterous-"
"Fine. The Captain then. But Victor, you're killing yourself, and I couldn't afford the medical care if I worked all day and night, and believe me, I could. Please, just rest, even if for a moment-"
"No! I mean, no. Listen, go back to your flat. Take your time to rest. You need it more than I, and-"
The creature gave him a look, pained or gleeful Victor couldn't tell with how monstrous the face was, how despicable the proportions. How could he have created something so… disgusting?
The taller left, in a storm of movement slamming the door behind him and nearly tearing it off it's hinges.
Victor sat down, and sighed. If his creature wouldn't see reason, how would he possibly accept his new work? Such fine craftsmanship, such time and effort put into such beauty. This would be the one, he was sure.
In a week's time, the storm came. Victor was ready. He'd rigged a haphazard device to the rooftop, and was waiting for it to reach it's peak, give him that… spark, of life, the thing he needed so desperately. He checked, and checked again, no, everything was perfect.
The strike was perfectly timed. The creature awoke, as did his Eve.
He knew something was wrong, instantly. He could smell smoke, and…
Fire. The entire building was alight, with Victor standing there, just standing, laughing madly and not seeming to notice the danger he was in. A figure moved, writhing in pain on the table, and the creature knew, just knew, what had happened. He couldn't breathe, the smoke was suffocating and everything was wrong and Victor had somehow just ruined everything and…
They had to get out of here. The creature grabbed his… he didn't know what it was, only that it was alive and it felt the same pain he had. Would feel the same pain. He couldn't see a face, only blood on the sheets and the table and he had to get them away from Victor, he was insane and would hurt them. People would hurt them, there was only one person he could trust right now, and she was miles away.
He would run. He would run away, damn the consequences. He'd run all through the storm, just to get away from his maker, to keep them safe. They needed to be safe.
And so he did, just as a crowd was forming, just as he could, just at the last second. He ran through the rain, long grass sticking to his legs and water wetting his long, long hair and causing it to stick uncomfortably to his face and neck. He kept running despite the discomfort, it was only temporarily.
He showed up at the Saville's door moments later. He knocked at the door, hard, and shouted. "Help! Please, let me in! Doctor Saville, I need you!"
