(I believe TB was also known as consumption at some point.)

@Tired-but-passionate

(ahh it was, wasn't it. Also yeah I like that, I tend to find myself playing with sibling dynamics a lot, probably because I have one myself haha)

(It could explain either a very healthy closeness or an almost codependent sort of reliance? Or their parent's deaths could have distanced them, too. Idk what sort of dynamic we want we'll figure it out when they meet.)

@Tired-but-passionate

(cool cool, I honestly don't really know atm haha)

(That's fair lol.)

Robert laughed lightly, a little surprised to receive the compliment from Victor. "I've been told something like that before, but I'm glad you think so."
He didn't really think about it that much, though the last part of it played on his mind. He hadn't really planned to be emotional support, but if Victor found him good for it, he supposed he might as well be.
He found himself dozing off too, despite his anxiousness, or maybe because of it, he wasn't sure. Although he would realize later that adventuring to the north pole would take its toll, obviously. He woke to find the carriage rolling along a familiar path, and he smiled with excitement and relief. They were surrounded by forest on one side and swaying fields on the other, then they turned a corner, and there it was.
The house was large, though not large enough to be considered a mansion or a manor. It had a brown-gray facade, almost mauve seeming, with white trim and a slate-gray roof. A circular tower rose alongside the triangular prisms, and at the bottom, neatly trimmed hedges and flower bushes surrounded the stone steps leading up to the black-painted cedarwood door. Walton House. He was home.
He got out of the carriage, thanking the creature with a nod and a smile that may have come from his excitement more than his appreciation of the creature's politeness. He went back around to unfasten his luggage and brought it around to the bottom of the steps, and waited for the others.
"Thank you again!" he said to the coachman.

The creature didn't mind how Robert shrugged him off. He looked out to the house, it was cozy and there was a garden wrapping around the house, where a child of maybe about 8-9 years old was playing. The moment she saw Robert, she rushed up to his, tackling his legs in a huge hug. "Uncle Robert! You're home!" she squealed, but then steadied herself, straightening her filthy dress. "It's Esme, I got older, didn't I! I got two inches taller since you left, I bet you barely recognize me!" she giggled. Victor slowly exited the carriage to find the scene, and decided not to interfere. This was between the two of them. He remembered William being a lot like this, always so full of life and excitement to tell Victor about a new species of frog he'd read about or an interesting leaf he found in the garden.

The creature quickly moved to cover himself with a shawl, obscuring the scarred grey skin of his face as effectively as possible. He didn't want to frighten such an innocent little girl, especially not with how she so clearly trusted Robert to keep her safe. No, it would be better if he simply left even, but he didn't have that choice now. She'd already seen him.

"And you brought guests! I'll go tell mum, she'll be so excited!" Esme gave an expectant look to Robert and the other two to follow along, and then ran off.

(Me: trying to write how children act based solely on my impression of how I acted around that age.)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(kdbhfgsjdhbf mood tho, I only have brothers and I'm like "how do I write girl children???" despite having been one once lmao)

(Esme is kind of my dream situation and I'm projecting a lot of wish fulfillment onto her. Like, she's been treated like her gender ever since she came out and was put in an environment that despite the barriers neurodivergence faces due to society, she'll be able to thrive in. She has supportive, loving parents who take care of her needs and help her sort out her wants and just are genuinely good people. So… I guess yeah this is sad now lmao. Idk being an adhd trans guy just makes her story hit different to me personally and I may be overanalyzing my motives here.)

@Tired-but-passionate

(ah yes, another child to adopt)
Robert beamed at the little girl, bending down to hug her back. "Esme, look at you! You have gotten big!" He pulled away, looking at her face and rubbing a small spot of mud off her chin. "Oh Esme, the north was beautiful. I'll tell you all about it once we get inside, yes?"
He glanced at Victor and the creature, simply saying, "Yes, I have." He motioned for them to follow, taking up his luggage again and following his niece inside.

@Tired-but-passionate

(it's been a looong daaay, without you my friend. And I'll tell you all about it when I see you agaaain~)

Victor looked from the running figure of Esme, to Robert, then back again. He inserted his hands in his pockets and simply strolled along, taking in the scenery. This reminded him of his old home, but much smaller, and without a gardener around. The family must live directly outside of London, Victor thought, as he had briefly woken up and seen them passing the Channel during their travels here. Esme brought back some painful memories for Victor, but he'd hopefully be able to stomach them and move on.

The creature followed hesitantly, not exactly wanting to intrude but also not wanting to be impolite by just standing around. He understood some social conventions, after all. When they were inside, there was the sound of a kettle running, some loud chattering from Esme, and an excited gasp as the tea kettle was apparently forgotten in favor of meeting Robert and his guests. A woman with warm olive skin and wide-set eyes entered the room, her face and hair the same shape and color of Robert's. However, the woman's hair was cut short and choppy, and she had deep brown eyes unlike Robert's hazel. She was also taller than Robert, certainly stronger. But they shared an unforgettable kindness in their eyes that could cause anyone to see them as siblings, which they were.

"Robert." Margaret smiled, and moved to embrace him. She'd missed him for so, so long. "How was your trip? Did you discover anything interesting? I can see Esme was right, there is a giant in this home, and a… well, skinny, er, whiny looking fellow. I'm sorry sir, Esmerelda can be quite coarse." she nodded to Victor.

"No offense taking, I was worse as a child. Um, may I sit down? It's been a long journey." he hoped he could meet this woman's husband soon, to discuss the possibility of getting a messenger down here for his brother.

(oh boy is victor in for a surprise-)
