Eugene was watching Lucas with much interest. He had leaned forward, with his breath held for some reason unknown to himself.

@Fraust

When Lucas reached the second base, he turned his head to look over his shoulder. The baseball hit him hard on the cheek and knocked him off his feet. He was dazed and had the wind knocked out of him, and he was only vaguely aware of a whistle being blown and a few people heading towards where he lay.

Eugene's eyes went instantly wide as he watched the baseball hit Lucas' cheek. He had almost seen it in slow motion. Knowing he probably wasn't allowed to go see if the other was okay, he just kept his eyes glued to Lucas.

@Fraust

Lucas was bleeding a bit and an ugly bruise was already forming on his cheek. His coach pulled him to his feet and helped him get off to the side, where he was then being checked over for a concussion. He still seemed very dazed and not quite sure what exactly had happened, and he wasn't able to follow the flashlight.

In Eugene's eyes, Lucas looked worse by the minute. He was chewing on his tongue in worry. But after only a minute later, he was out of his seat on the bleachers and he was rushing over to Lucas.

@Fraust

A replacement was sent in and the game continued while Lucas was examined. He seemed to be struggling to stay conscious, but the coach and medical personnel were trying their best to keep him awake. The bruise on his cheek continued darkening by the minute.

Eugene came upon Lucas, the medical crew, and the coach. He stayed back, a little hesitant to say or do anything. It wasn't like they were that close. It had only been less than a week since they had met each other.

@Fraust

"Luke, we need you to stay awake. You've got a nasty concussion." Lucas groaned softly and opened his eyes a bit. The coach gave him some ice. "Hold this on your cheek." Lucas obeyed to the best of his ability, which wasn't all that great at the moment.

Eugene swallowed and went forward, against his better judgment. "Uh, can I help at all?" He softly asked the coach. He glanced down at Lucas then back up to the coach.

@Fraust

"Keep him awake while I call an ambulance?" The coach suggested, already pulling out his phone. Lucas yawned, struggling to keep the ice on his bruised cheek.

Eugene simply nodded, approaching Lucas and kneeling down beside him. "Hey… um, you have to stay awake." He paused, gently taking the ice pack out of Lucas' hands and holding it to his cheek for him.

@Fraust

"Mmmm…" Lucas stuck his tongue out a bit and closed his eyes, leaning into the ice. "But m'head's all fuzzy… wanna sleep…"

"You can sleep once we get to the hospital, for now just focus on staying awake, okay?" Eugene said softly, offering a small smile. His eyes were still a little wide, but not as much as they had been before.

@Fraust

Lucas looked up at Eugene weakly, his vision shifting in and out of focus. "Why're you all… blurry…?" He asked, his voice slurred.

Eugene honestly knew nothing about concussions, so he didn't really know the answer. "Uh, well I'm not sure…" He looked around nervously, wondering when the ambulance will come.

@Fraust

"M'head hurts…" He mumbled, glancing up to look at the game being played. "Shit, m'late for the game… put me in coach…!" He tried to stand up to go back out on the field.

"No, no, no! Uhm, you're hurt, you're in no shape to play." Eugene tried to keep Lucas on the ground, forcefully but gently.

@Fraust

Lucas huffed indignantly. "But they… they need… me…" He swayed a bit where he was sitting, holding his head with one hand. "Ugh…"

Eugene sat down right next to Lucas, wrapping an arm around the other's shoulder to steady him. "They switched you out, and look, your team's doing pretty good so far."

@Fraust

"Mmmm… but I gotta be out there…" Lucas coughed a bit and looked up at the faint sounds of sirens. "God? Is that you?"

A faint smile appeared on Eugene's lips. "Ah, those are just sirens… They're sirens! You'll be going to the hospital soon. You'll be okay."

@Fraust

(insert me chuckling softly at myself)
"Sirens… ah… okay…" Lucas looked back out at the field, humming something clumsily to himself. "What're they gonna do to me?"

(lol)

"Uh… I think they're gonna just make sure you're okay and stuff." Eugene didn't know the first thing about hospitals and procedures. He was a pretty safe person, and even when he did get hurt, it was deemed small enough to not go to the hospital by his mother.

@Fraust

"Okay…" Lucas yawned again and a few medical personnel soon arrived to where he was sitting. One checked him over to make sure that he was, indeed, injured, and the others brought out a cot. They lifted Lucas onto it and put him in the ambulance. For convenience and because I want to keep you involved, Eugene was dragged in too.

Being gland for involvement Eugene followed without hesitation. He sat next to Lucas, looking around the ambulance nervously. He'd never been in one. It was weird, even though he wasn't the one hurt, yet the medics were so calm.

@Fraust

After a couple more minor checks, the medics seemed satisfied that Lucas was at least stable and just focused on keeping him awake. At some point, Lucas's shirt was taken from him so they could search for other injuries and the medics seemed troubled. "Was he hit by any other baseballs?" One of them asked Eugene.

Eugene also looked concerned. "No. There was only one and it was to his face. He had just gotten on the field and just batted with no difficulty." He had said with a calm voice, of course, he was the opposite of calm at that moment.

@Fraust

"Hmm… any domestic violence you're aware of?" They asked. Lucas was littered in bruises and cuts of varying severity. They also found large, partially healed wounds on his head that seemed to be from glass.

Eugene was about to say he wasn't, but then he thought back to whenever he took Lucas home. Was the sound he always heard upon Lucas' entrance inside related to it? "I'm not sure…" Is all he said, thoughts whirling around in his mind.

@Fraust

Lucas winced whenever he was touched, but stayed silent for now. He wasn't present enough to really process what was going on. Soon enough, they reached the hospital and rolled Lucas into a room.
