M shrugged. “People are annoying. Especially when they bother me and my work.” He yawned widely and leaned back in his chair.

Rai cocked her head. "People like me?" she teased. "If you truly liked your work, you wouldn't let people get in the way of your passion for it." Rai suddenly stood up from the chair and approached M's desk. "We must find your spark again! Is there another case anywhere in town? Or even out of town?"

M blinked at her tiredly. “I’ve been doing this job for so long it’s just gotten boring. And no. Not people like you. People who idolize me for what I do.”

Rai threw her hands up into the air. "Then let's find something else for you to do! Come on, M! I know you've gone on living for years and years and years, but there must be something you haven't tried yet. That you might like," she urged, a bewildered smile plastered on her face.

M blinked dolefully at her and slowly shook his head. “Nope. Nothing.” He tilted his head to study her. “Why exactly do you pay so much mind to it, dearest?”

Rai stared at M with a bit of shock in her expression. She crossed her arms, "There can't be nothing. That's impossible, no matter how old you are. The reason I care is because I've spent the last seven years doing everything I couldn't do before. I'm tryna experience the world, and here you are, some amazing nonhuman, with crazy abilities, sitting at a job you don't even like."
She heaved a sigh, her hands falling to her side. I am too determined.

M bunched his cheeks up in his pale hands, his icy eyes thoughtful and crisp.
“Indeed. If you’ve done a job for over five-thousand years, you’d get bored of it, too. And my abilities are not just “special”. They’re natural. And extremely annoying.”

Rai pointed to M in frustration. "You, sir, are a pessimist. Would you like to walk on the power lines with me? We could also get lunch. No point staying cooped up in here if we aren't going to do something," she suggests, in hopes M will comply. Pretty please, with a cherry on top?

M wrinkled his nose. “I am a pessimist. I am also many other things.” He shifted around, putting his arms down. “I could. Are you inviting me or making me go?” He smiled a bit at her, rising from his chair. “I will join you.”

Both.
Rai closed her eyes for a moment, recalling where the power lines were and where the building was located. Her eyes flutter open and she smiles in M's direction. "Is there a way up to the roof?"

M tilted his head, grinning faintly at her reaction. “Yes, there is, but I’m not all that skilled at aerobatics anymore. We’d have to take an elevator to my twin’s room and call my butler. Which is… a lot of work.”

She shrugged as if it was no big deal. "So be it. Everything's a lot of work. Plus, I'll help you! It's really easy, I promise!" Rai chimed and jumped up to change the light color back to it's original blinding white. Come on, M! I could meet your twin too!

M blinked against the light, looking up at her with a frown. “You’re not going to keep that? Also, how are you expecting to help my fragile ass up on a roof singe-handedly? That doesn’t make sense.”

Rai groaned and jumped up again, this time to change it to a dim orange color. She returned her focus to M. "Fragile? You've got to be kidding me, M. No more excuses, mister I-leaped-off-a-roof-and-walked-off-with-no-scratches." Rai pouted, crossing her arms over her chest.

M stuck out his tongue idly, fiddling with his fingers. “Oh yes. I’ve done that a lot.” He laughed softly. “But eh. Still. Fragile.” He looked up at his light. “Thank you. I prefer blue.”

Rai shrugged, gazing at the light. "I wonder if I can learn to have the light change colors on a timer." She shook her head and started out the door. "Well? Lead the way to the roof, M! Lunch is awaiting!"

M watched her walk across his office with an eyebrow cocked. “Hm. You certainly are… the want for a good word… energetic.” He rose slowly from his desk and slouched across the room to join her.

They left his office, and M began to lead Rai to an elevator. "Well, someone here has to be," she grinned, but truly it was in her nature. Not only did Rai need energy for her power, but she also had so much contained and pressed down over the years, it was time to be excited. Where to eat, where to eat…

M put his hands in his pockets, fiddling with a small knife in it. “I suppose you’re right. You’ll find a lot of people here with energy, just not as much as yours.” He paused in front of the elevator, pushing a call button.

Rai and M wait for the elevator to arrive. "Really? Maybe you haven't met the right people."

M rolled his eyes, stepping into the elevator when it arrived. “Trust me, I do know.” He chuckled tiredly.

M pressed a button to the highest floor. Rai glanced at him with curiosity. "Who's one of the coolest people you've met?"

M sighed slowly, blinking in thought. “Such an odd, personal question. Hm… I would like to say the God of Insanity. He was quite “cool”.”

The elevator brought the two up each level. Rai watched as the floor numbers slowly grew. "What is he like?" she questions.

M smiled in rememberance. “He’s cool. I liked him. But my twin did not.”

"Just cool? What else? And why doesn't your twin like him?" Rai persisted, wanting to know more. She hoped M would be less vague, just to satisfy her curiosity.

M hummed softly poking at the tiny screws in the elevator idly with a long finger. “It’s hard to explain. I can takr you to go see him, if you’d like. Insanity, not my brother.”

A grin graced Rai's lips. "Oh my god, yes! That would be so sick! Where is he? Could we see him after lunch?" she exclaimed as the elevator door slid open. Now that would be quite the adventure indeed.

M smiled a bit and nodded, leading the way out of the elevator. “That would be convinent. I can do that. For now, where should we go for lunch?”
