Nixa starts when she's hugged but smiled gently, hugging her back. "It's no problem. I'm just doing my job, princess." She laughs softly. It was a warm laugh. A happy laugh.

Lara sat up, still smiling. “Yeah. It’s your job. Huh. What do you do all night? You stay here, right? My goodness, that must be very tiring.”

She chuckles. "I stay here for the most part, yes." Nixa thinks for a moment. "Yes. It can be tiring. But it's my job." She shrugs and relaxes, running a soft and worn by combat hand through Lara's hair.

Lara let her guard pet her, half-closing her eyes happily. Her hand brushed gently on her scalp, which tickled all kinds of her fancy.
“Mmm… it’s your job. Don’t you ever get tired of it?”

"When watching you? Never." She smiles, glad to see the princess was enjoying her gentle affection. She was not only protective of her princess, but she adored secretly spoiling her too.

Lara giggled shyly, turning a faint red. She loved compliments. Especially from her favorite guard ever.
“Aren’t I ugly in my sleep, though? I feel like I am.”

"Nope. You still manage to look like a princess when you sleep. " She chuckles at the thought. In all honesty, Lara was cute doing anything.

Lara laughed a bit, straightening up to look at Nixa better. “You mean it? I don’t snore or anything? Hang my mouth open like a monster?”

Nixa laughs. "Okay. Maybe you do snore a little, but it's cute snoring." She ruffles Lara's hair gently, a slight smile on her lips as she gazes at the other.

Lara giggled a little and let herself move with Nixa’s hand. She couldn’t help acting like a child with her. It just felt right.

Nixa adored being with Lara. Even though she was a bodyguard and her job was to protect the princess, she couldn't help but adore the other. She loved how childish Lara acted around her, the simple conversations they could have. She loved it all.

Lara laid down and stretched out again, yawning. “Nixa, dear, you may take the night off if you’d like. Or don’t. That is okay too.”

Nixa runs a hand through her beloved princess's hair. "I will rest later. I promise. Now. Get some sleep. You have a big day tomorrow."

Lara covered her face with a groan. “I don’t want to do that stuff. I hate all of them. With their snarky comments and their wandering gazes.” She shivered.

"I can always… Gently remove them. I have the authority to do so." She laughs gently, running a hand through Lara's hair comfortingly. She sighs softly and smiles at Lara. "Maybe at the end if the day we can do something fun to make up for it."

Lara grumpily frowned and wrinkled her nose, shifting her arms away from her face.
“Really? What could we do? Maybe we could go play in the lake, or the gardens?” She smiled.

"Anything you want, Princess." She laughs gently. "Is that enough incentive to get you through the day tomorrow? Maybe I can drag one of the princes out of the court room if I think he's looking a little to much for comfort." She smiles assuringly. "I'm not going to let anyone touch you or even look at you wrong. I promise."

Lara smiled a bit wider in a thankful way. “Would it? I’m sure the vision of you grasping someone by the hair and dragging them away is enough incentive.” She giggled softly. “It’d be quite funny.”

Nixa laughs gently. "I would probably find it amusing myself. Unhand me, you filthy guard! You're destroying my curls!" She laughs, covering her mouth.

Lara leaned on Nixa, overwhelmed by wild giggles as she imagined a prince being dragged away. She could hear those angry words too.

Nixa laughs and calms down, chuckling into her hand. "That would be a sight to behold. Am I right?" She smiles and runs a hand through her hair.

Lara let her head move back with Nixa’s hand. “Mhm. That’d be great. I’d remember it forever and ever.” She yawned widely.

Nixa laughs gently. "Go to bed, princess. Big day tomorrow." She says gently, tucking Lara in gently. "I'll be here if you need anything."

Lara nodded sleepily and curled up. “Good night. Don’t forget to get some rest. You deserve it.”

She smiles. "I'll keep that in mind, m'lady." She runs a gentle hand through her hair before turning the lights. "Goodnight, princess."

Lara grabbed Nixa’s hand before it left her head and squeezed it in her frail one.
“Have a good night. Sweet dreams.”

Nixa smiles and squeezes her hand in reply. "Goodnight, mistress." She offers a sweet smile before walking to a couch and taking a deep breath.

Lara relaxed into the bed, letting Nixa’s hand slip from hers. The bed was still warm, and she was glad. She was always cold at night.

It was quiet in the room for a while. The owls native to the land hooted and Lara snored softly in her bed.
Until there was a thump of a rock on the window. Lara stirred but didn’t wake completely.
