hina was running trying to get to class when she ran into someone "s-sorry…''

Claire tumbled down as a girl ran into her. "It's okay." she replied. Claire looked at the girl and couldn't help to feel a blush creeping onto her face. Oh wow… she's cute.

She gets up and dusted herself off. "Did you get hurt or anything?" She looked worried

Claire laughed. "I'm fine. What about you? You were in quite a rush, weren't you?"

"I was late so…i needed to get her quickly..sorry about that again…"

"It's okay. Seriously. What's your next class?" Claire asked the girl.

"ummm…math"

"Oh cool. I have english but it's right next to your math class so I'll walk with you…" Claire said. Wait- what's her name? "What's your name again?"

"hina….hina minchi…" she blushes "and your's?"

"Claire. uh- Burgen. That's my last name, obviously." Claire could feel her face growing redder by the second. "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around…" Claire knew many of the people in her classes and had never seen Hina before, She was sure she'd remember a face like that.

"j-just got here yesterday. had to get away from my dad" she held her right arm hugging it tightly

Get away from her dad? Claire wondered what that meant, although she wasn't sure if she should ask about it. The bell rang before she could reply anyway. "Oh, uh- see you Hina! Welcome to the school" she said walking into the classroom.

"I thought she was gonna walk me to my class now I'm lost" she sighs and tries to find it

Claire sat down in her seat, her mind still on Hina. I hope she finds her classes. I remember being super lost on my first day. she thought. Oh- I should've asked for her schedule. Then maybe I'd be able to help her find her classes…

Hina was being pushed around by a group of guys they laughed when a boy called her a "freak"

Claire walked into the busy cafeteria that she usually tried to avoid, but today she needed a lunch. and I wanna see HIna She shook her head at herself. No that's not why… she thought, lying to herself. She saw a group of boys crowded around a girl who she recognized to be Hina. She heard the word "freak" leave one of the boys mouths and walked quickly to the group to defend HIna.

she was scared and trying to get away. "l-leave me alone…."

"Hey! Leave her alone!" Claire said distraught. She was overcome with a strong urge to protect her. She was ready to fight the boys. What kind of sick person bullies someone on their first day? she wondered. She came toward the middle of the group and grabbed Hina's arm to pull her away from the bullies.

then her brother walked up to her. "h-hina…you ok?" she hugged her tightly "I'm fine Jacob"

Claire stayed with Hina even when her brother walked up. She made sure she was okay. The boys hadn't hurt her, but they were harassing her which infuriated Claire. "HIna, have you eaten?" she asked. "I'll get you some food if you want.."

"o-oh ummm…i got a lunch..thanks for asking" she was nervous
"did they hurt you.?" Jacob looked at her then to Claire "what happened ?"
