"I think we should start a bit… smaller than that. Perhaps some local folklore? Whatever did this to you sounded like something the local lore would cover." Alex smiled.

"I think we should start a bit… smaller than that. Perhaps some local folklore? Whatever did this to you sounded like something the local lore would cover." Alex smiled.
Aukai perked up. "Okay." She stood up then bent over, scooping some sand into a tiny satchel and tucking it into a pocket of her new jean jacket. Then she held out a hand to help Alex up, her eyes a deep, sparkling blue. "Are we walking?"
group
"If you want to." Alex gladly accepted her hand, pulling himself up. He looked at the pocket she had put the sand in, but didn't question it.
"Shall we?"
Aukai smiled and nodded, heading for the sidewalk, towing Alex behind her.
group
Alex followed behind, smiling. He knew this was serious, but he was enjoying his time with Aukai.
Aukai skipped along. Suddenly she ran into a girl that stepped right in front of her, causing her to fall down and the wind was knocked out of her. Her head buzzed.
group
Alex knelt down next to Aukai.
"You okay?" He asked softly.
Aukai's head spun. She felt something warm trickling down her face and into her ear. Blood. She groaned. "Not again…"
group
Alex spotted the blood. He turned to the girl who had suddenly appeared.
"What the hell's your problem?!"
Aukai grabbed Alex's arm. "No. Don't. It's fine. Just hit my head."
The other girl had dark purple hair and bright red eyes. "Good luck finding the way to break the curse. It's practically impossible." Then she cackled and disappeared into thin air.
group
Alex blinked several times, then turned to tend to Aukai. He helped her up.
"I think we just found out who cursed you…"
Aukai held her hand to the cut on her head. "Yes… At least their human form. I don't understand something though. I haven't bled in years. Not since…" Her eyes widened. Then she slumped and sighed. "Side effects of the curse. Right."
group
Alex brushed some of the blood from Aukai's forehead with a handkerchief.
Aukai winced at the fabric. "You wouldn't possibly have a bandage would you?" She grinned weakly, her vision starting to spin.
group
Alex shook his head sadly.
"Unfortunately, no." Alex looked at the cut on her head.
"Thankfully, head wounds are never as bad as they look…"
Aukai tried to take a step but stumbled. "Then why am I so dizzy..?" She looked almost sleepy.
group
Alex put his arm around Aukai to keep her from falling.
"I think we need to go get this checked out."
Aukai shook her head. "No doctors…" Her head hurt so much… She leaned against Alex as a feeling of nauseousness washed over her. Her eyes turned a sickly green.
group
"At least let my mom look at it; she's a nurse." Alex held Aukai close to him, not letting her fall.
Aukai just nodded. "Okay… We can do that…."
group
Alex saw Aukai was getting weaker, so he bent down and scooped her up in his arms. He resumed walking at a fast pace, heading for his house.
Aukai curled up into Alex and closed her eyes on the spinning world.
group
Alex looked down at Aukai.
"You have to stay awake, okay?" He went faster, nearly running.
Aukai complained, "But I'm tired…. Just a couple minutes, okay…?" Her breathing was beginning to deepen.
group
Alex jostled her slightly.
"Open your eyes. Now. Aukai, I really need you to stay awake. We're almost there."
Aukai started to cry softly. "But I'm so tired… Why can't I sleep..?" She opened her eyes and looked up at Alex with her poison-green eyes.
group
Alex looked down at Aukai.
"I'll let you sleep all you want after we fix you up, okay?" He reached his driveway, stomping up the porch stairs.
Aukai sighed and snuggled closer to Alex, seeking his warmth.
group
Alex pushed the door open, holding Aukai close to him.
"Ma! I need your help!"
Aukai shivered at his shouting, her head pounding. It hurt so much. Then she noticed the blood she had smeared all over his shirt. "Alex, your shirt. I'm getting it dirty…" she slurred her words slightly.
