"Mm." He sighed through his nose, and wrapped his arms around Jane. "May I meet your family, soon, Jane?"

"Well, you've already met my father, haven't you?" she murmured, already wanting to kiss him again.

"I want to see him again," he spoke when they parted. He was holding Jane's shoulders now, "I need to ask something of him,"

"My evening is free as the pen of Jefferson himself," he replied smoothly, supporting himself on the peg of a nearby chair.

She laughed, a rich, freeing sound. “Is that an invitation to stay longer?”

"And what is that?" she asked, her heartbeat picking up phenomenally.

"Absolutamente," Cruz replied in a grunt, taking April's hand to kiss.

April raised an eyebrow, mulling it over. In the end, she gave a carefree shrug, though in reality there was an odd buzz in her veins. “I’m open to it.”

André smiled slowly and widely. Especially with relief. "That is okay with you, Jane..?"

John picked up the woman in his arms. War had given them enough strength to support her, and his pain was worth it now.

April allowed him to lead her away, an amused smile on the subtle curve of her pink lips. “Thank you, sir,” she returned, slipping the heavy coat onto her shoulders.

"I should hope so!" John chirped, twirling around with joy.

"Mmm, my pleasure." He pushed the door open for her.

She slipped out into the cold, turning to wait for the Spaniard to follow.

He let the door shut on its own, and took a few steps onto the cobble street. Cruz curled his arm around hers to lead her to the stable nestled in the building– Cruz smelled like musk and hay and gunpowder. The true aroma of a weathered soldier.

April kept her eyes trained on him— the stubble on his chin, his mussed hair, his chocolate eyes. He was undeniably attractive, but there was something beneath the flirtatious words, the contented gaze, and she wanted to see more of it.

"I should hope so!" John chirped, twirling around with joy.

She pressed close to him again and kissed him passionately.

The black horse lifted its head and huffed at Cruz, shone sleek-furred in the candlelight.

"I knoww, I know." Cruz chuckled, running his hand along her well groomed pelt. "Meet my new companion, Athena, it's April." He smiled back at the woman. "She's very warm, and sexy."

John sighed slowly through his nose, and stirred his peach fuzz.

She broke off, turning slightly pink. "Um… sorry."

John's exhale shook with a small laugh. His eyes settled softly on her face. "Why?"

The black horse lifted its head and huffed at Cruz, shone sleek-furred in the candlelight.

April laughed, cocking her hip. “Slow down, tiger, we just met.” Approaching the horse, she made sure to ‘accidentally’ brush the Spaniard as she went past.
