He grabbed her hand squeezing it softly.
Soulmate au
She squeezed back. “I’ll meet you there?” She proposed, walking toward her own car.
He nods and headed to his car.
She waited a moment before getting into her car and then another moment before she actually drove out of the parking lot. The coffee shop was fairly close by, so she got there only a few minutes later.
Jack gets his phone and keys and heads over to Eden.
Eden smiled when she saw him walk in. She had just gotten there, but there was already two people in front of her. She moved to the back to be next to Jack.
'Hey!' he smiled brightly.
“Hey,” She smiled back. “What do you usually get again?”
'Carmel macchiato."
“Okay. That’s what I’m gonna get.” She explained.
'And you get?'
“Soy chai latte, light ice.” She recited from many, many times ordering that exact drink. She was often a creature of habit.
'Sounds cool! I'll get it this time.'
“Drink switcheroo.” There were only two people left in line. And soon it was their turn. “I’ll have a caramel macchiato.” Eden said as she got up there. This specific coffee shop was one of the very few places that she wasn’t mildly to very nervous to order at. She looked at Jack as she stepped aside to let him order.
He typed down 'Soy chai latte, light ice.' He smiled as he ordered.
Eden smiled back at him. It seemed like she was smiling more in the last two days than she smiled in a week.
He leaned over so their shoulders were touched slightly.
Eden shifted her weight ever so slightly into him. It was hardly noticeable, but she wanted to be closer to him. A few minutes later, the drinks were ready. Eden grabbed the chai at first before remembering she order the caramel macchiato. She handed it off to Jack and picked up the other cup.
He laughed. 'Thanks!'
Eden giggled as she scanned the floor for open tables. “How about there?” She pointed to a cozy, two-seat table by the window.
He nods and holds her hand.
She walks over to the table with him, hand in hand. It wasn’t the same table that they sat in before, but it was close. She sat down, somehow still managing to keep hold of his hand.
He smiled softly taking a drink then types. 'Yummy!'
“Yay!” She took a sip of hers. It was surprisingly good and she was glad she tried it. She still liked her usual better, but this was quite nice as well. She fidgeted, her knee now touching Jack’s, hands still clasped. She rubbed the back of his hand with her thumb again.
He had many thoughts running through his mind.
Eden didn’t know what to talk about, but she found it comforting to just sit with Jack. And she hated silence most of the time.
Jack was thinking of things he and Eden could do. Dates and stuff.
Even though Eden had taught herself not to go there, she somehow started to imagine a future with Jack. She couldn’t help herself. She always did this. Maybe this time would be different because…they’re soulmates. Eden didn’t want the success of their relationship to be centered around the magical red string tied around their fingers. But for now, it was what was keeping her from freaking out too bad. “Can I make a confession?” She asked.
He nods slightly breaking out of his thoughts.
“You’re the first person, I think, that has ever liked me back.” She explained. “I mean, usually I get this overwhelming crush on somebody, even though I know that in meeting them it wasn’t meant to be. But I don’t know. I’ve seen a lot of people love people who aren’t their soulmates. People who have these notable points in their life when they truly loved someone despite knowing it wasn’t fate. They did it anyway. Knowing it was going to end, but doing it for the moment, for the experience of it. And I never have. I don’t know. Maybe it’s stupid. Maybe they’re wrong. And I’m not saying that I’m upset with you. I’m not. I’m so incredibly happy that you are the one for me. So, so insanely happy. And I know that this is the right path. I guess what I’m saying is, that I feel left out. I don’t know. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.” She started to get a heavy feeling in her chest, and she felt like her body was getting ready to spring up and run away. She tried to push it down,
