“No. No, I’m fine.” She insisted.
Soulmate au
“I do say so.” She tested a slice again, picking it up and letting plop on her plate when it started to burn her hand. She wiped her hand on the napkin again.
Eden quietly took a biteof the slice of pizza. It was a little too hot but bareabke enough to force herself not to spit it out. She put the pizza back down and let it sit longer, then took a sip of her drink. She shifted a little in her seat. Her knee touched his under the table, and she didn’t move it.
“You good?” She asked, feeling guilty.
(They’re just too damn polite and secretive at the same time for their own good)
“No, you’re not. What’s up? Be honest.” she suddenly realized that she hadn’t been honest with him, but didn’t know how to address it now, so she waited for him to respond.
“No. I made me feel weird. Don’t feel bad. Also, I lied. I said I wasn’t sad, but I was. Just a little, though, so it’s all good. It’s not something I wanna get into right now.” She told him.
She slipped her hand into his. “I’m sorry. I don’t want to be all bummed because of me. To be honest with you, I’ve got issues. Baggage. And I feel so much better with you around, but this is not stuff that can be healed in a day, a week, or even a month. I think you probably know about this kind of stuff already, so I won’t preach. But I just want you to know that if I am sad, don’t be sad for me. Okay?”
(Literally typed half of that up and then absent-mindedly refreshed the page and had to do it again)
“Okay.” She pulls her hand away, taking another bite of her pizza. It was perfectly cooled by now.
“Yeah. I like it. I’ve only ever gotten cheese here because I know it’s really good. And I know that’s basic, but it’s just a classic.”
Eden nods, taking another bite of her pizza. Her leg started to do the bounce thing. She didn’t notice, though.
She smiled, “You do this a lot,” she said. “Though, it’s not unwelcome.”
“Well that sure is convenient because I like sitting by you,” she replied, nudging him a little before taking another bite of her pizza.
Eden clenched her fist to feel all her fingures at once. She felt the cold all across her palm. She put the non-greasy hand on Jacks cheek. “Make me warm.”
She leaned in, softly giving him a little kiss. It wasn’t long, or special, or anything like that. It just felt right for the moment.
