“Thanks, I appreciate it,” Felix replied.
He paced a bit, then settled on a spot between two trees. He started snapping branches off other plants to build the shelter.
“Here, help me set this up. I can try to weave a little vine canopy for it too before the rain comes.”

Eclipse nodded, doing his best to move in and help, grabbing branches like the ones Felix had been getting.

Felix started to arrange some of the sticks and branches into a frame, also directing Eclipse on where they needed to be put. Meanwhile, he was looking around to see what kinds of leaves and plants he had to work with.
(Meanwhile I know nothing about wilderness survival and temporary shelters lmao. Tried doing research but so many sites are like “have a tarp!”)

(I know a little bit, basically what they could do for them is build what's called an A-Frame shelter, you need a tree, a long branch, and a lot of sticks, and then leaves for insulation.)
Eclipse went looking for othr supplies they might need, trying his best to help.

(Ah, okay. Might still throw in some minor magic shenanigans because he can, though.)
Once Felix had the basic frame set up against one of the trees, he went to his pile of sticks and started fitting them into place.
"A hand, if you would?" he asked, hoping Eclipse would just follow what he was doing.

Eclipse nodded, instinctively catching on and starting to help him out.

As Eclipse started adding to the shelter, Felix started taking leaves and stuffing them in the sides of the shelter, in the crevices for insulation. He glanced around for vines and other things, then dropped what he was doing and started on a cover for the shelter, weaving together vines with his nimble fingers. A soft green glow came off his fingertips as he infused it with magic so that the vine leaves expanded, just enough to make the piece waterproof.

Eclipse stayed out of the way of the growing vines, before jumping when a crack of thunder rant through the air.

"Ugh… we won't have time to shelter the horses," Felix murmured, "But we should be able to finish ours before the rain comes."
He finished off the woven piece and set it down, helping Eclipse on the base structure a bit more.

Eclipse nodded, working frantically to help finish it.

Once they finished off the shelter, Felix cast the vine web over the shelter, then crouched inside, checking for any holes or gaps in the structure.
"I think we're good," he said, "I'll unhitch the horses, and then we'll be done."
He started towards the cart again.

Eclipse nodded, staying close to the shelter as another loud clap of thunder rang through the air, forcing a whimper from his throat in fear, and a little pain, as the noise was loud enough to make his ears ring a little.

Felix undid the straps and such on the horses, grabbed his belongings from the cart, then went into the shelter, curling up on one side.

Eclipse followed him inside, shifting and pressing himself away from the door, ears pinned back as another crack of thunder sounded.

"It's gonna be okay," Felix murmured reassuringly, "We should be safe here. The structure is pretty sound."

Eclipse just let out a low whimper, flinching at the flashes of light outside.

"Can I… Can I do anything to help?" Felix offered.
It wasn't his fault, but he still felt bad about the situation.

Eclipse shook his head, staying low to the ground as he triedto ignore the flashes outside.

“Hey, focus on me,” Felix said, leaning slightly in Eclipse’s direction, “It’ll be okay. I’m here, and I won’t let anything bad happen.”

Eclipse's eyes slowly flicked over to Felix, his entire body flat to the ground and ready to bolt.

Felix felt secondhand fear run through his body. He instinctively reached out a hand to Eclipse, offering for him to take it.
“It’s okay, you’re okay…” he whispered.

Eclipse placed a paw on the other's hand, otherwise staying rooted to the ground.

Felix kept muttering reassurance to the half-wolf, prepared to stay with him all night if he had to.
He carefully laid down on his stomach to get comfortable, but kept his hand where it was.

Another loud crash of thunder rang through the air, and Eclipse let out a whimper, not just out of fear, but pain too, as the noise was hurting his ears.

Felix looked down. Was that pain in his eyes?
"A-are you hurting?" He asked, "Gods, can I help?"

Eclipse shook his head, ears flat against his skull.

Felix bit his lip.
I want to get closer to comfort him, but…
He inched just a little closer and placed a hand on the back of the other’s head.

Eclipse was very, very tense under the other's touch, every muscle coiled tight.

Felix drew back.
“Sorry, I should’ve asked first,” he muttered.
His thoughts were racing. He just wanted to help.

He wasn't tense because of the other, but rather the storm, visibly flinching when the next crash of thunder came.
