She flinched but nodded "better start now then later." She sat up straighter and looked him in the eye. "I fell in love with a stranger." She began, her voice already cracking
The queen and her dragon (open)
Drake couldn't hold the stare. He looked down and released a sigh through his nose.
Valtira looked down at the ground and continued "we spent everyday together, talking, laughing, enjoying each other's company in silence. She didn't care that he was a shifter and he didn't care that she was Fae." She glanced up at him "let me know if I missed something."
He nodded, "I will. You haven't so far."
She nodded "one day on the spring, the most beautiful the kingdom has seen for years, he asked her to Marry him. She would become a shifter like him as well as fae and he would be her king."
He looked down at the grass.
She looked off into the distance "we got married under the moonlight, such a beautiful night it was on the lake. The rumors started after a few years. At first, that's all they were. Rumors. But then they got more specific and they seemed real."
"Soon they became real…" He muttered.
She looked up in surprise "so the rumors of you wanting to leave with a servant girl were real? the rumors where you planned to kill me were real? even the ones where you wanted my kingdom for your own pleasures were real?" she shook her head "talking went well…" she said with bitter sarcasm
Drake shook his head furiously, “No, no the last two… they’re not real but the first one.. I would never… the serving girl one… I thought about it and for a time, I wanted to but decided against it last minute.”
She smiled, looked up at the sky to try to fight back tears of anger "but you were still thinking about it until last minute." She said agonizingly. She stood and started to walk to the river near by
Drake sighed and followed, "I know I was," He said quietly, "And I regret it. I… I shouldn't have thought about it at all and for that I really am sorry. You don't have to accept it but I really am sorry."
She glanced back at him "what? what did I do to you for you to have ever thought to leave like that?"
"It was never you. It was always my own insecurities," He still spoke quietly and kept his gaze on the lake, "I didn't think I was good enough for you, for a queen. I wanted to make you happy but when you see so many noble lords and royalty… it got the better of me and it shouldn't have."
She looked surprised but kept her gaze to the lake "those Lorde's and royalty will never, I repeat never, match up to how happy you make me. It does not matter that I am a queen, I've loved you and only you for this whole entire time."
Drake nodded slowly, taking off his shoes and socks, he sat down on the edge of the lake and put his feet in the water, "Okay. But I'm still sorry…"
She stood beside him and nodded "I'm sorry for getting mad at you earlier."
"No, I shouldn't have gotten mad." He replied.
"Why? you have every right to be." She said as she saw the un slowly setting.
He was quiet for a little while, just kicking his feet slowly in the shallow water and watching the sun go down, "I know. But that still doesn't mean I should have snapped at you."
She shrugged "You're entitled to your own feeling and I to mine. Plus, I think I needed someone to snap at me for a while now, a good argument is healthy." As the moon rose, she slowly shifted into her wolf form.
“Well, you’re not wrong there.” He muttered, watching the moons reflexion on the lake.
She growled gently in response and nodded
He leaned back in the grass and sighed, “We should get back, shouldn’t we?” He muttered, but he closed his eyes and didn’t budge.
She smiled and nodded. She nudged him with her snoot but when she saw that she didn't move, she curled up close and closed her eyes
He peaked one eyes open and wrapped an arm around her, pulling her in just slightly closer to his body.
She nuzzled into him and licked his hand gently
Drake, despite himself, cracked a small smile, "Goodnight Valtira."
She let out a small bark in response and nuzzled up against him, finding comfort in his unnatural warmth and solidarity. She hadn't realized how she'd missed his presence until now
It wasn't long after that until Drake was asleep, curled up around Valtira be a lake, under the moonlight.
