Sorin nodded and picked him up. He sped walk to their house, feeling the darkness getting thicker with each step.

There was a loud, unsettling buzzing pounding into Cas's ears. He turned them back and covered them with his hands, gritting his teeth. He wasn't sure if Sorin could hear it or not, but it was driving him mad.

"Cas, you okay?" Sorin's heart pounded against his chest as though it could burst at any moment. Almost there… He sped up his pace.

"Nngh… it's… it's too loud…" Cas muttered through his teeth, his tail curling up around Sorin's arm.

Sorin was running. Shadows shattered the street lights, accompanied by its haunting whispers as it followed the two. Once his house was close enough, Sorin fumbled for his keys in his back pocket, an arm still holding Cas. The second he reached the door, he unlocked it and immediately went inside.

Cas tossed his head a few times, the noise becoming overwhelming. It filled his head, traveling throughout his body in the form of terrified chills.

Sorin shook him. "Cas…Cas! Hey, what's wrong?"

"Agh! It… it hurts!" Cas screwed his eyes shut, tugging at his hair. "M-Make it stop!"

He lied him down on the couch and ran to his fridge to grab a water bottle. "Do you need water? A-A blanket? Medicine?"

"N-No, my… my ears… agh…." Cas kept them covered, wincing. "There's… th-there's horrible noises coming from outside…"

Sorin couldn't hear anything, just silence– an unsettling kind of silence. He didn't know what to do about it so he sat down next to him and pulled him into a hug, praying he could think of any way to fix this.

It pressed in on Cas until he just wanted to scream, but he resigned to just meowing quietly in distress, blinking away tears.

Sorin didn't understand what was going on. He only held him tighter, resting his chin atop his head as he rocked him back and forth.

Cas whimpered quietly, huddling against Sorin. "W-What is it?"

Sorin looked down at him. "Is it… is whatever's bothering you gone?"

Cas shook his head, wincing. "Ah… I… I-I think it's getting closer…"

Sorin looked around frantically, searching for whatever is wanting– is hurting Cas. Though, he found nothing.

Cas looked out the window, where the street was eerily dark despite it not being that late.

This is her doing, he thought. Then again, she would've just faced the two head-on– A statement, she was making a statement.

The noise was audible to Sorin briefly before it became too high for him to hear. Not too high for Cas, though. "Agh!" His eyes rolled back a bit and he cried out in pain, shaking violently. He kept trying to cover his sensitive ears, but the noise wouldn't go away.

Sorin gritted his teeth as he struggled not to cover his ears. He picked up Cas and immediately sprinted down the basement, slamming the door behind him.

Tears came to Cas's eyes, and his vision was going blurry. He could still hear it from down here despite it being a bit quieter. It got higher; high enough that Sorin couldn't pick it up anymore. Cas made a few strange meowing/gargling noises before his eyes rolled back in his head and he passed out.

Sorin went pale. His heartbeat slowing as he looked down at him wide-eyed. He stood there, frozen for a moment before he decided to run toward a small mat. He laid Cas there, gently and checked his pulse, letting out a sigh of relief.

He jolted upon hearing muffled scratching noses against the basement door. Sorin took off his shirt, wrapping it around his wrist to bite into the skin, then performing the only warding spell he memorized from that Enchiridion.

Cas stayed unconscious on the mat, shaking even in this state. His breathing and heart rate were erratic and irregular by now.

Sorin glanced back at him as he finished drawing his final symbol on the wall. He ran back down the stairs and knelt next to him.

Nothing looked good. Sweat was begging to bead at his temples, his breathing shallow. No herbs, no medicine, no spellbook… it was a dead-end. He looked down at his bloodied wrist– No, too risky. Angel blood did have some healing properties, but it's components made it unsafe for the human body. The human body. Sorin brought his wrist up to Cas's lips.

After a second or two, Cas's shaking slowed. He hadn't woken up quite yet, but he was stirring and whining, screwing his eyes tightly shut.
It took him a minute to open his eyes and tentatively look up at Sorin, his heart pounding. The noise was muffled from the symbol now, so it didn't hurt him as much.

Sorin's heart beat faster in excitement. "Cas– Hey, Cas, are you okay? How do you feel? Is it– Is the noise gone?"

"It's… it's not gone, but it's not as bad…" Cas murmured. "I think I'm okay… can I… can I have a hug?"

Sorin pulled him upright and held him tight. He nuzzled into his neck with his grip tightening more as though he might disappear at any moment.

Cas wrapped his arms around Sorin's neck weakly, closing his eyes with his ears back. "I'm sorry if I scared you…"
