She looked around and nodded, "We're real." She said, "Do you need to get to land?" another dip under the water and she popped back up, easily staying afloat from her tail.

"I do, do you know if there's any nearby? I can't fly when my wings are wet." Keiran asked watching her gracefully dip in and out of the water.
"There's a small island nearby, can you swim to it?" She tilted her head slightly and looked at him, glancing at the sky as well, "I can lead you to it but we have to make sure no planes fly overhead."
"Yeah I should be able to, thank you for helping me." He glanced at the sky before looking back over at her. "I'm Keiran by the way."
She nodded and smiled softly, "Nautia." She flicked her tail underwater and swam a little ways away, motioning for him to follow, "Follow me, it's not too far away."
"Well it's lovely to meet you Nautia." He answered before following after her, slowly unable to swim as fast as Nautia. He used his wings to help propel himself forwards but it hurt to do so with his injured wing.
"It's nice to meet you too Keiran." She said, waiting for him to reach her before swimming a little ways away again, "Are you hurt?" She asked, pointing to his wing.
"Um…yeah a bit but it should be fine." He answered looking over at his mangled looking wing, he hadn't had much of a chance to focus on his injury. It was a bit worse than he originally thought but at least he hadn't been killed by the humans.
She glanced at his wing and dipped under the water for a moment, coming back up. She didn't know anything about wings or wings on people and she nodded, sure that if he said it was ok that it would be fine.

Keiran followed her through the water, swimming as quickly as he could although he knew she could probably swim much faster. He watched her tail gracefully sway through the water at ease while he probably looked the equivalent of a log trying to swim.

"Do you need help?" She asked him, swimming a little closer to help him if needed. The island was in sight now and it didn't look like much, it was mostly sand with several trees and boulders dotted throughout, enough to make a decent hut if you tried. She studied his wings as he got closer, completely amazed by them.
"No, I'm okay thankyou for the offer." He answered, looking up and seeing that they were nearing the island. Keiran noticed that she had seemed very intrigued by his wings. "You can ask anything you want, I owe you that much." He said politely, referring to his wings.
She nodded and smiled lightly, "I'll wait until you get to the island, you seem like you need to focus on swimming right now." A quick glance at the sky and she saw that it was still steadily getting darker, her amazing vision from having to see underwater helping her see the stars already.
Keiran nodded and kept swimming, he glanced down at the deep dark water and wondered what lie below the surface, just out of sight.
Soon they were quite close to the island and Nautia stopped a little ways away, her tail touching the sand as she swam a little closer.
Eventually Keiran was able to touch the ground and trudged through the water rather than swimming.
"Will this island work?" She asked, watching him from where she had to stop so she didn't get stuck on the land.
"Yes, it's perfect" He turned around to face Nautia. "Thankyou I really appreciate everything you've done." Keiran said sincerely.
Nautia nodded and smiled, "Can I still ask you questions about your wings?" She swam a little closer to the shore and laid on her stomach, looking t his wings.
"Of course." He gently shook his good wing to get the excess water out before folding it at his back alongside the injures one. Keiran sat down in the sand partially in the water so they could talk easier.
She swam closer to the shore and laid on her stomach in the water, dipping her head under every once in a while, "This question isn't about your wings but, are there more of you? Do people like you live in the clouds?" She looked up at the now quite dark sky and smiled at the stars.
"Yes there are, I come from a small village in the mountains full of others like me. If you don't mind me asking are there others like you?" He answered and asked kindly, following her gaze up to the clear starry sky.
She nodded, "There are others, too many in my opinion," She answered, "Is flying scary? How do you guys get your wings?" She pulled the end of her long tail out of the water and flicked it around, humming lightly as she looked around.
"No it's not scary, we are born with wings but we don't learn to fly until our wings grow big enough." He answered, leaning back and resting his weight on his hands.
"Wow.." She said, a small smile on her face, "It must be fun to have wings…instead of a stupid tail." She waved her tail and sighed, looking at the sky, "I would give anything to be able to fly."
"Really? I think it would be amazing to be able to do what you do, there's probably so much to see, do and learn. The sky is just clouds." He looked back down from the sky and looked off to the horizon.
"Clouds, and the sun, and stars, and birds.. everything's just amazing up there.." She trailed off, "The ocean is just water, and fish and random things." She dunked her head under the water again and looked up at Kieran, "Plus, your wings are beautiful."
"Thank you, Your tail is stunning as well." He took his eyes off the horizon and looked at Nautia kindly "What's it like living underwater? I'm really curious since you said there were lots other merpeople."
