Abandoned and Alone | Open

"Too dark for me? What do you take me for, a wuss?" Kale huffed, secretly curious as to how Jay knew he was mildly afraid of the dark. "What about you, how are you going to know where to go? There's bound to be twists and turns in this thing."

"I could feel the walls. It's not like I can see. So the dark really isn't a problem." Jay responded back.

"Oh yeah, my bad." Kale ducked into the opening, slowly starting to make their way through on hands and knees. "Come on then!"

Jay started crawling in behind Kale.

"Just take it easy." Kale advised. They were only thankful that Jay couldn't see the panic in their eyes. Their heart pounded wildly against their chest and their breathing became shorter and quicker, but still Kale carried on crawling. "Watch yourself, there's two tunnels. You want to go to the right, I repeat, the right."

"alright I get it. Also what is wrong with your breathing" Jay asked noticing that Kales breathing was abnormal.

(What does that mean?)

(he noticed Kale's breathing was shorter and quicker.)

(No, sorry, I meant about the 'Jordan filler')

"N-nothing's wrong with my breathing. I think you're hearing things." Kale bit their lower lip hard, forcing themselves to regain composure. "We're almost there. There should be a vent at the end of this tunnel."

"um alright." Jay said and nodded.

(Ah okay)

Kale reached the vent, thankful for the small rays of light coming from the other side. It appeared to be unscrewed at the bottom, so they carefully pushed it open and peeked out to the other side. Their eyes widened in amazed horror. "You're not going to believe this…"

"what is it. I feel a breeze." Jay asked.

"Uhm.. How to describe this… there are a couple of dirty tables, and some stacks of chairs with dust on them. I think a few birds and mice have made their homes in here judging from the twigs and leaves scattered on the floor. But I think the best part, and the part that scares me most, is the open window near the top of the wall."

"so we are in a dirty basement that has a way out." Jay asked.

"It seems a little obvious to me… Like a trap that they have planned. But I don't think they're wise enough to do even that." Kale began inspecting every inch of the basement, looking for anything that might have hinted that it was a trap, but found nothing. "I just don't understand…"

"don't know maybe they forgot about this area."

"They wouldn't be so careless. Think about it, all other windows are barred and locked, the front and back door are always locked unless there's a delivery. They clearly do not want us leaving the building. Why would this window, the hardest one to come across, be open unless they were expecting someone to come down here?" It was clear that paranoia was getting to Kale, and they were doing their best not to show it, but no matter how much they put on a nonchalant front, inside were a mixture of emotions that they didn't really know how to control. "All I'm saying is it doesn't look good from my perspective."

"calm down. I don't hear anyone around do you see anyone?" He asked wondering.

"If I saw someone then I wouldn't be speaking. We wouldn't be in the room to begin with if someone was here!" They paused, taking a deep breath before speaking quieter. "Something about all this just sets me on edge, that's all."

"do you want to go then?"

Kale hesitated, they weren't sure what to do. Part of them said it was a trap and they should go, while the other said they should take the risk and escape while they could. "I don't know. What do you think we should do, wise guy?"

"I don't know. I can't even tell if this is a trap it just seems really quiet in here."

"The entire place has been strange all day… I'm probably being paranoid. I think we should tell Jordan about this, see what he thinks."
