Eli shook his head disappointingly. "If you want fun, you have to behave."
Ana nodded once more. "What did she do? Was the circus like it is now when she was there?"
Alice smiled cheekily. "Misbehaving is half the fun, thought."
"She was sent here because she was talented is all. And it was worse when she was here."

Eli sighed. "You're a hopeless case."
"Worse?" Ana couldn't believe that it was possible. "What role did she have in the circus?"
She shrugged proudly. "What can I say? I have a rebellious soul."
"Singing and dancing. She was incredible," he remembered.

"What happened to her? Why is she…..like that?"
"What would you say is, then?"
Haile sighed. "Obviously a place like this takes its toll. And it probably didn't help that half the people in her group were taken for experimenting. Besides, she was young and impressionable."

"Experimenting?" Ana asked, ignoring everything else.
Alice brought a hand to her chest in mock hurt. "That stung, Eliott."

He huffed. "Gene mixing, mostly."

Haile shrugged again. "Yes, well, the world's not all cupcakes an unicorns."

Alice shook her head. "The only reason you'd ever talk to me like that is with an ulterior motive."

She raised a sceptical eyebrow. "Unlikely you'd think that. I murdered you, remember?"

"What does it feel like?" Alice asked reluctantly.

Eli shrugged again. "It feels like usual. Except when I do this." He stuck his hand through the wall. "It feels like my hand is stuck in really dense water."
Alice stifled an honest laugh. She shook herself out of it and looked ahead. "How about when you pass through someone?"
