“It gets exhausting being a goody two shoes,” Fern sighed. “I’d much rather stay here with you. I’ve already missed some class, so what does it matter if I miss a little more?” She looked into his eyes, almost pleading. She didn’t want to go back to the real world. Because then you’ll have to face the music. Actions have concesquences.

"If that's what you want." He smiled, biting his lip a little as he thought. We probably shouldn't stay out here forever. There are mosquitoes and I don't have any bug spray."
“Okay,” she agreed, glad that he stopped pestering her about going to class. She was definitely getting grounded when she got back home. She kissed him again. “That was for not making me leave.” She giggled.
"Uhuh." He smiled at her giggle. "And this-" he placed a kiss on her lips "-is for staying." He pulled away from her, taking her hand. "Let's go."
Fern smiled, her face aglow with happiness. “Okay,” she repeated, following him. Her face was still a bit flushed and her hair was slightly disheveled but she was happier than she had been in a while. Not smiling was harder than smiling right now.
He was careful with keeping her close this time. They went through the main part of the forest and came across the stream, walking on the limestone bed. He was extra cautious as they passed through there and up the hill. Once they got to the top, he looked to her with a small, almost guilty, smile. "My grandma isn't expecting me to be home."
She nodded, remembering his grandma and how she seemed nice. She squeezed his hand. “So, um, what’s the plan?” Fern asked him.
"I don't know." He blew out a puff of air. "I mean, we could sneak through the window. Or we could do something else." He turned to her. "Any ideas?"
“I don’t know,” she admitted. “I’ve never skipped school before. We could go to my house, since both of my parents are at work and my siblings are at school.”
"If that's what you'd like." He leaned down and kissed her on the forhead gently. "Skipping school is my area or expertise. Number one rule: have more fun than you would at school. It sounds easy, but it's pointless if you don't."
Fern nodded. “Check,” She said with a smile. “Okay, so are you good with my house? Or do you have a better idea?” She was just curious, not challenging, as she asked.
"The fire alarm was my last idea and that didn't turn out so good." He chuckled a little. "Let's go to yours."
“Cool,” Fern replied, leading him in the direction of her house. The walk would take a few minutes. “Why did you pull the fire alarm, exactly?” She raised an eyebrow, still smiling.
He sighed. "You have your reputation, i have mine." Being seen as he was in the video would mean the down fall of his well built wall, something he couldn't afford.
“Oh,” she said, understanding. “So, is this going to be a secret then?” She looked at their intertwined hands, smiling still but there was a tinge of sadness to it.
"I, uh-" he looked down to their hands and then back up ahead. "I mean, I don't think the world could handle it." Idiot. He didn't want her to take it the wrong way. He honestly thought that she would want to keep it a secret. Who would want to be seen with a jerk like him?
“Oh,” she said again, disappointed. “It’s probably better this way anyway; my parents wouldn’t like me dating you anyways. No offense. They’re totally overprotective.” She sighed, trying not to feel like he was ashamed of her.
"Yeah, I'm sure they'd hate it." He could tell he had hurt her, but he wasn't sure how to fix it, so he changed the subject "How much longer to your house?"
“Only a couple minutes,” she replied. “It’s only like a five or ten minute car ride so it shouldn’t be much longer.”
"Okay." He let the silence sit as they walked, the scrape of their shoes against the pavement becoming the loudest thing in the world. He kept a hold of her hand though. What would be the point of letting go?
After a few minutes of walking, they reached her house. “Here we are,” she said as she dug a key out of her pocket and opened the door to the average-sized, but fairly nice, house. “Home sweet home.” She opened the door with a click and smiled at Zavian.
Compared to his house, it was amazing. Of course, his house had been built a long time ago and this one seemed recent. "This is nice." It was suprisingly quiet.
“Yeah,” she agreed, trying to picture seeing it for the first time. It wasn’t anything special, but she could agree with him that it was nice. She closed the door and locked it, putting the key back into her pocket. “What now?”
"It's your house, so I don't know." He hadn't actually been to anyone's house since he was a kid. He hadn't even been to Jay's. He was new at this.
Fern shrugged. “Are you hungry? We have plenty of food,” she suggested. “Or we could watch tv. Or I guess just hang out?” She didn’t really have any clue what he wanted to do.
He took her hand and spun her around until she was in his arms facing forward. He held her for just a moment before kissing the top of her head. "Whatever you'd like to to do."
Fern blushed. “Okay,” she said. “I could really go for some food then.”
"Then food it is." He laughed a little shifting from foot to foot with her in his arms for another moment, letting go after he was satisfied.
She took his hand and led him towards the kitchen, searching for something to eat. She settled on a frozen pizza, taking it out of the fridge. “If I make this, will you eat some?” She asked. “I can never finish them.”
"I most definitely will." He laughed. "How could I not? It's pizza!"
