Lucia exhaled quickly, closing her eyes and leaning back on her hands, grateful to have jumped out of the way in time.
"I'm okay." she opened one eye and glanced at the wire. "The charger's okay. No one's hair is on fire just yet. So I think we're all okay." She said slowly. "What do you think that was?"

"It looked like a fuse blew, but I can't be sure. All I know about fixing technology is resetting the wifi and sticking my phone in rice when I drop it into the bean dip at the cantina down the street, which is more often than you think." She breathed a sigh of relief, more to calm herself than anything else, and looked into the other girl's eyes. "What's your name?"
Lucia was startled by the other girl's honest stare. "Lucia." she replied quickly. "What's yours?"
"Patagonia." there, she thought. Now was that so hard? You're being social!
While the girls talked Alaria went to check the device. No burn marks, no apparent damage. So either the shock had been a power surge, or that was part of the device's function. She raised it to her deep blue eyes.
A symbol: two Lines horizontal above eachother, and a circle on either side of that. The circles were glowing the same blue as the discharge. The two lines were white. It reminded Alaria of an old rank sigil that she'd seen some hybrid species batalions use. She couldn't peg which one it was, though. It wasn't hers.
She held it up to the two girls, "What do you two make of this?"
Patagonia's eyes flashed in momentary recognition but shook her head dumbly, refusing herself to recall what had happened.
Lucia racked her brains for an answer as she stared at the symbol. It did bring back a memory, ever so vague… She brushed it off.
"No idea. Was it engraved on it?"
The hybrid shook her head. Alaria turned to the the other girl, "What about you? Does this ring any bells? Kinda looks like a rank sign, but it's acting like a signal indicator…" She pushed her brown hair out of her eyes again.
I need to get my bloody hair trimmed…
(whoops…)
Making up her mind finally, Patagonia looked down at her zentangle-decorated Converse. "It's a symbol for a secret society."
"Oh? How do you know?" said Lucia.
Alaria gazed at the hybrid. The girl gazed back, an unease in her eyes. Alaria met her gaze with as much compassion as she could, "What was your name again, hybrid?"
"I'm Patagonia. I-I was a member during College."
Lucia looked between Patagonia and Alaria. "Am I missing something?" she asked hesitantly.
"I'd better go, I don't want to be late for work. It was nice meeting you two…" Patagonia stood suddenly and dashed to her table, snatching her stuff, and making a beeline for the door.
"Tactless moron." Lucia muttered to herself, letting her head droop against her chest.
Suddenly, Patagonia dashed back to the other two, fear etched in her face like a stone carving. "L-llook… It-It's a- Run!!"
Lucia immediately jumped to her feet, trained to act quickly. "What is it?" she asked urgently, looking out the window.
(umm whats an intimidating name)
(whipstrike?)
(we'll just go for a whipstrike for now)
Lucia immediately recognized the creature running down the street.
"It's a WhipStrike." she muttered, voice trembling.
"
(good)
"It's Whipstrike, no time to explain…" Patagonia ripped the disc from the charger and, making sure her newfound friends were following her, smashed a back window with her backpack and ran out into the early morning sunshine. "He knows what car I drive, anyone got any ideas on how to get out of here?"
"If I can tap in to one of your energies, I can float us away on something." Lucia sais. She looked around and immediately spotted a large, curved wood plank.
(I'll be off for a few hours. Just drag Alaria around for a bit. Sorry)
Patagonia nodded confusedly, not knowing what the heck she was talking about but knowing she'd seen enough to know sometimes it was best to just go along with things. Lungs heaving from her moment of mary-sueness, she reached into her pocket and took a puff of her inhaler.
Lucia grabbed Patagonia by the arm and all three of them ran to the plank of wood. She sat cross-legged on it and took hold of one of Patagonia's hands, registering the other girl's confusion. But she couldn't think about that now, and she emptied her mind. She let mind wander and guided it into the plank beneath them. With one heave of effort, the plank took off from the ground. She was already drained, but Patagonia's strength seeped into her. She lifted the wood plank, out of Whipstrike's reach, and deposited them onto a rooftop.
"ohymygodwhatwasthatdidwejustflyamiabirdnowholycrap" Patagonia shrieked, hyperventilating.
Lucia smiled weakly before her eyes rolled to the back of her head, and she collapsed.
"Oh my God…" Patagonia moaned, catching her body and positioning it in a prone position on the tin roof. "Umm…" Trying to think rationally, she pulled a bottle of SmartWater from her bag and took a long swing. Wait… Water. She poured the rest on Lucia's face. "Sorry, sorry, sorry…"
The water that landed on Lucia's face evaporated when it came into contact with her skin, and she up.
"Wasshappind?" she blurted out.
