"It wasn't. . . that bad." She could practically taste her lie. Mari rubbed her arm, suddenly feeling cold. She tried not to meet Ellis' eye, instead staring at the ground.

(Ellen: We both know how fricking big of a lie that is.)

"That bad? Mari, it was like having a sword made of ice shoved down the center of you. That's pretty bad."

(conner: stop fighting…)

What else could she say? "You should go." Mari started to walk away, trying to get back to her corner.

"No don't." Ellis grabbed her arm (wow he likes doing that). "Don't go and disappear again."

"Why do you care?" Mari was treading into dangerous territory now.

Ellis bit his lip. "Because…."
Tell her you love her and then you can kiss her!
What? In what world would Mari kiss me?
I don't know seems logical to me…..she does have her soft spots…

"Because I…." Ellis's face flushed.

She dropped the conversation, looking down at the floor. "I lost my hat earlier. I should buy a new one."

"I could get you one. It is kinda my job."

"Yeah." Mariko clasped her hands behind her back, shooting glances at Ellis every few seconds.

Ellis crossed his arms and looked at the ceiling. There was a stretch of silence. "Do you think we should replace the brakes as well as the landing gear?"

"The brakes? They're basically a whole other system. It would take time, but I'm sure I could do it in a day, give or take." She bit her lip, trying not to stare at him.

"I bet you can! You're talented like that."

A blush crept up Mari's cheeks and she looked away. "Thanks. You're a talented captain."

Ellis smiled, feeling his face start to grow hot. "Aw shucks. Thanks. You're makin me blush."

"Y-you're welcome." She curtsied and brushed past Ellis, trying to head. . . anywhere but there.
