After Phoebe left the group, she traveled back to the edge of the forest where she'd bumped into Scarlet and Virgil. If Jasper was still alive, he'd be meeting her there… hopefully. It had only been a day or two, so he should still be there. And he hadn't been there when she left.
"Stop stressing," she mumbled aloud to herself. "He'll be there."
Once Phoebe made it back, she looked around for signs of life. A scuffed-over campfire or a recently-broken branch.
On the ground next to a tall tree was a small rock. People typically wouldn't notice it, but she did. "Jas?" Phoebe called up into the tree. There was some rustling and then her sleepy-looking brother slid down the tree to land next to her.
"Phoebe, where have you been?" He signed, eyebrow raised. She sighed and promised to explain later, as soon as they got away from the edge. Before they could start moving, however, angry shouting came from the walls. A group of soldiers had been on patrol and spotted the two.
Phoebe spun around so fast that her relatively short hair managed to slap her in the face, but it didn't help matters. The captain and another soldier grabbed her, any efforts to fight proving futile. Jasper managed to duck past the soldiers going after him, just barely hearing Phoebe's shout of, "Get to Risa's!" before disappearing into the forest.
