she laughs easily, blushes a lot, stutters sometimes. she's very cheerful and mostly positive but can easily get discouraged.

a lot of things that she does is to spite her parents, or her brother. she often feels too controlled, too tightly tied to her family, and wants to get to live on her own and take care of herself.
the idea of recovering from her ptsd also motivates her, and she wants nothing more than to be a 'normal' teenager. she wants to make a living from her art and go to a good college.

she has almost zero self confidence, and her anxiety is quite bad surrounding social settings. she sometimes tries to challenge herself in places where she should play it safe, and it ends up backfiring.

selene is a naturally gifted academic, and does well in all her classes without putting too much effort into it (she's taking all honors except science). she's also an artist, which is her main interest, and she's very very good at drawing. her parents put her in piano lessons when she was young, so she's very good at piano too.

her main interests are drawing and painting. she enjoys playing and listening to music as well.

Selene is Jewish, and while she doesn't closely observe any of the traditions or rules, she is vegetarian and technically keeps Kosher. She tries to align her morals with Jewish values (Tikkun Olam, Teshuva, peace over war, etc). her family presents themselves as Christians to outsiders and buy a Christmas tree every year. her father is deeply concerned with their family's appearance.

She's rather apolitical, but she would absolutely lean democratic. her privilege puts her in a position to not worry about politics, but if she thought about it, she would be at least moderately liberal.

she doesn't have any currently. she volunteers at the local library on weekends, and she once co-taught an art class at her nearby Adult School, but she's never done any paid work.

Junior in high school. she went to public school from 1st to 8th grade, went to private school in 9th grade, homeschooled in 10th, and transferred back to public school in 11th grade. she was in private school for about a month in 10th grade before she decided to homeschool.

Selene grew up doing a million different things. She spent a lot of time at her shul and was close with her brother. as a kid, she was forced to pick a sport and chose the swim team, so spent most of her time swimming or hanging out with her friends. She tried to spend every Saturday with her grandfather (after Hebrew school) and listen to his stories, which strengthen her connection to her heritage. She is a very kind, gentle person who sometimes takes on too much than she should. She doesn't spend much time with her parents and doesn't really like them, and often feels pressured by their high standards (although she absolutely meets them, and often exceeds them). She is very academically gifted, but her confidence is stunted by her insecurities with her body and mind, and her general mistrust. She is very much a people pleaser and is desperate to make her brother and friends happy - her love language is quality time.

She moved a few times, but can only remember when they moved houses when she was 10. Selene loves to walk on the beach by their house on Cape Cod, and hang out with her cousin Olivia. she ended up quitting the swim team, and the only time she really goes swimming is when Simon has her go surfing with him at the beach.

She was manipulated and raped at 14 by an older boy, and developed severe PTSD, as well as anxiety and mild depression. Her parents blamed her, and their support system was non-existent, save for sending her to a therapist. Her anxiety often comes out in one-on-one interactions and she mostly feels safer in groups. her panic attacks are triggered by loud noises, physical touch when not asked for, and tight spaces.

Selene's paternal grandfather came to America from Poland when he was about 20 years old, and had Nick a couple years later. Nick's mother died shortly after he was born.
Selene's maternal grandparents were born in Virginia to two old English/Irish Colonial families.
