History
Mass crop devastation first began on 5/8/████, in Pampas, Argentina. At first spanning approximately 50 miles in radius, the affected area gradually spread over a five week period, with livestock disappearances starting midway through the fourth. On 6/9/████, Mr. Juan Onzari, a farmhand, reported sighting of a silhouette at 3:28 AM. The silhouette, Mr. Onzari claimed, belonged to what appeared to be a bird of unprecedented size, and was shortly followed by a windstorm that ravaged his fields.
On 6/21/████, at 8:45 PM, Mr. Onzari's testimony was confirmed when an enormous avian devastated several towns by means of whirlwind generation, leaving as suddenly as it came. This continued for the next two months, with military attempts to meet the creature proving futile, as its attacks followed no discernible pattern.
One of the first modern-day kaiju to make itself known to humanity at large, those with anything positive to say about her are few in number. Virago was named as such for her demeanor: she attacks mankind with no provocation, tearing through cities whenever the mood strikes her. When wreaking destruction, Virago commonly emits a series of rhythmic chirping sounds; the purpose of this is unclear.
Virago is hematophagous - feeding on blood - and her tongue ends in a needlelike point that can easily penetrate steel and other kaiju's hides. This adapted tongue can extend to approximately twice her beak's length to make feeding easier. However, perhaps befitting of her name, Virago prefers to prey upon humans and animals magnitudes smaller than herself. Her waste is known to be highly toxic for two days upon landing, afterwards becoming a surprisingly potent fertilizer.
When facing other kaiju, she shows no mercy in her assaults, making attacks from above out of range. She opts for torture rather than finishing foes off, and will readily target those that cannot fight back. However, she has also been observed to turn cowardly once she is no longer in control, and will attempt to escape when she feels threatened. Virago's speed and agility have allowed her to evade capture and destruction time and again.
