History
Chuuk Lagoon is the world's largest ship graveyard. These sunken vessels leaked pollutants into the water over the course of decades, which proved incredibly hazardous to local sea life, and a humble hermit crab was one such creature. The chemicals in the water altered its DNA, spurring unnatural growth that led it to run out of natural shells to hide in. Driven by instinct, it broke down old battleships, aircraft, and coral reefs into a shell of its own make—one that coincidentally resembled a skull. Dagon received its name from the sailors that first spotted it.
Dagon has developed a number of adaptations to ensure its own survival. Its corrosive bubbles are created using a combination of acidic saliva and stored seawater, which it uses to construct its shells: it repeatedly pelts suitable materials with bubbles to them break down, then uses its claws as hammers to essentially weld these materials together. While its bubbles can also be used in self-defense, they don't travel very far out of water, so Dagon is forced to rely on its claws more often than not. Its claws are incredibly strong, and primarily used to either lift and throw smaller buildings, or deliver multiple strikes in rapid succession. Its greatest weapon, however, is the ability to "snap" its claws—out of water, this produces an explosive shock wave, and in water, it additionally boils its surroundings. The force of this snap is sufficient to knock down larger opponents and shatter glass for miles, but it seems Dagon cannot perform this technique in quick succession.
Notes
Hermit crab with oversized claws. Body is primarily black, while each claw's pollex, ending 1/3 of each antennal flagellum, and end segment of each leg are red. Its shell strongly resembles a humanoid skull, with Dagon protruding from where the mouth should be. This skull has a third eye socket on its forehead, a pair of devilish horns growing from the sides that curve down and inward, and a trio of spines on the cranium. The skull is dirty white, while the ending 1/3 of the horns and spines are brown.
