History
Crystal Keepers from the distant kingdom of Alidia drove the dragon king and his subjects from their land, claiming it for themselves. The dragons journeyed south and discovered a large mountain that would suit them well as a new home. But they went to war against a nearby village and were defeated again. Abandoned by his subjects, Sombra chased a group of ponies north again, before succumbing to his injuries in The Broken Pass.
Later some Crystal Ponies from the Empire took a piece of his crystal heart as a gift for their new king. What they did not realize is that the crystal had been saturated in dark magic, and still contained some of Sombra's spirit.
