History
6/25/████, volcano [REDACTED] on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia suddenly erupted, sending fire and ash approximately four miles into the air. [REDACTED], having last erupted in ████, erupted with no warning signs. The [REDACTED] Nature Reserve took renewed interest and began study once more.
6/27/████, scans discovered an unidentified mass within the magma chamber. Further information will follow pending proper investigation.
6/30/████, seismic activity from volcano [REDACTED] was detected, believed to have been triggered by the sudden shifting of the unidentified mass. Steps were taken to evacuate the surrounding inhabited areas in case of a larger eruption.
7/2/████, seismic activity escalated; volcanic ash could be seen rising from the volcano crater. Scans indicate the mass is actually a living creature of massive scale - estimations place the organism as being between 30 and 40 meters in height. How anything could survive in the center of a volcano requires further investigation. The announcement is made; residents are given two days to prepare to evacuate.
7/4/████, evacuation is underway. [REDACTED] Nature Reserve continues to monitor volcano [REDACTED]; eruption is believed imminent.
7/6/████, the volcano erupts. An unknown member of the order araneae emerges from the crater, seemingly unfazed by the lava and ash raining down upon it. Subject immediately begins descending the mountainside
Pyrachnid is speculated to have once been an ancient spider species, adapted to living in much warmer temperatures deep underground. An untold time of exposure to the accumulated power of the Earth's radioactive core and the raw materials of the earth caused it to mutate, growing to a gigantic size and altering its very physiology.
Having emerged from its volcanic den only relatively recently, Pyrachnid is one of the newest kaiju that humanity has become aware of. It is primarily predatory in nature, almost single-mindedly stalking anything it thinks it can devour. It is not averse to attacking people, either, though actual attempts to hunt them for food are rare.
Its mineral exoskeleton is virtually impenetrable, providing ample protection against most weapons employed by the GDF and other monsters. Its composition is also practically a volcano in itself; magma-filled volcanic vents dot its abdomen, each of them capable of eruption depending on its emotional state, and its very blood appears to be molten lava. Simply standing near Pyrachnid is dangerous, as its body gives off tremendous heat due to its complex inner-workings.
The blades tipping Pyrachnid's legs serve not just as grips to climb surfaces, but as deadly weapons - capable of puncturing concrete in one blow. As expected of a spider, Pyrachnid has spinnerets and can produce silk, but this silk is superheated and often painful to other kaiju's touch. Webs it spins are major hazards, and specialized teams are utilized to remove them from populated areas.
More alarming to scientists, however, is where Pyrachnid came from: Vital signs have been detected deep within Mt. Rainier, south-southeast of Seattle, Washington. If these match the ones found in the volcano before it erupted, it could mean that Pyrachnid is not a unique case.
Notes
A spider with igneous rock instead of an exoskeleton, with molten cracks in it. It has eight eyes, arranged such that two are side-by-side, three aligned vertically to their left and right. Each of its long legs has a wicked blade in place of a tarsus. Its abdomen has a number of stone stalagmites on it, as well as several volcanic vents.
Though not normally visible, it has a softer, crimson exoskeleton underneath the igneous rock.
