History
Wanting to contribute to the war effort, and inspired by the strong showing of Germany's Balmung, Russia began development of their own mecha unit. What started as a specialized helicopter soon became plans for a transforming mech, with the intent that its robot mode could go toe to toe with kaiju.
As the mech was designed to transform, an early decided-upon goal was to ensure it could transition from aircraft to robot mode and vice versa as smoothly as possible, and as often as needed. At least 30 designs were drafted and rejected until the government started testing, with 20 more tested and reworked before finally settling on the "Halo Hailfire," sometimes called "Hailfire" for short.
One month after the Halo Hailfire's completion, the kaiju later dubbed "Chiropterror" emerged. Being capable of flight, it was decided to take advantage of the opportunity and send the Halo Hailfire to combat it as a field test. As its pilots had not truly familiarized themselves with its controls, the mech did not initially fare well and was forced to retreat. Six hours later, following minor repairs and rigorous review of its capabilities, the Halo Hailfire reengaged and destroyed Chiropterror, proving itself a viable option as hoped.
With its high speed and aerial mobility, and its laundry list of potential pilots undergoing regular extensive training, the Halo Hailfire is considered one of humanity's first breakthroughs in anti-kaiju technology.
Notes
AIRCRAFT MODE
A bulky tiltrotor aircraft; pressed against underside are a pair of tucked in bulky limbs with three claws. Attached to main body's sides are cylindrical pods, roughly the body's length, the backs of which have nacelles, and the fronts of which have caps. From the sides above each cylinder are a pair of broad wings, at the base of which are large guns, and at the tips are tiltrotor fans. Vessel's canopy curves downward, with a see-through cockpit that is nested within an indentation. The tail is incredibly short, and appears to lack a propeller.
Strength: 4
Speed: 8
Armor: 5
Weapon: 7
Mobility: Aerial
MECHA MODE
The craft pitches backward, so the nose/cockpit points up to become a simple head. The wings fold to the back, with the tiltrotor fans aiming behind it (letting them be used for short bursts of speed). The pod cylinders split and extend to form shoulders and arms, with five digit hands emerging from the caps. The guns rest on either side of the head. The limbs on its underside flip down to serve as legs, and the claws feet.
Strength: 6
Speed: 6
Armor: 5
Weapon: 7
Mobility: Terrestrial, aerial
