A jagged scar across the bridge of her nose. Uvblanda's symbol: a circle with three lines leading down from it and a downward facing triangle above it. Symbolizes the goddess Mortiana. It's on her right wrist. Next to it is the Uvblandan symbol for slave: a fist.

She acts before she thinks a lot. Does not really have a filter. Her distrust can make her dangerous. Not hiding the Uvblandan brand on her wrist can make people dislike her or afraid of her.

Hates Uvblanda and anyone who supports it. She doesn't like the Council of Four all that much because she thinks it's useless.

She's extremely good at lying. Fast runner. She's a good actor and a good sailor. She's pretty good with technology, but not as good as Li.

She likes to make disguises. She likes to joke around with people she knows. She hangs out with Esperanza a lot. Likes to sail.

Adventurous. Isn't afraid to hide her past or take risks. She knows how to have fun, but if you touch her, you're dead. She is incredibly smart and determined. She's fierce and proud. She's distrustful, but only because of how much she lies herself; wary of strangers. She tries to be serious, but ends up laughing or smiling whenever something funny happens. She's more laid back than her sister.

Glares a lot. Sits a lot of places that aren't really for sitting. Unlike Court, she doesn't hide her brand. Laughs whenever someone messes up or when she messes up. Blushes easily. She always sits "like a man," you know, like she's manspreading, Screams a lot for like no reason.

She doesn't like the people in power but she knows they're at least trying to make things better.

Mariah was born three years after Esperanza in Tellunia. Her father was a blacksmith and her mother was a fisher. She learned to sail in Tellunia along with Esperanza and they both learned water magic here (although Esperanza was always better at it than Mariah was). Mariah and Esperanza were taken away from Tellunia dring a slave raid and were taken to Uvblanda. Here, Mariah gave Esperanza the earrings made by their father. Almost two years later, Esperanza was sold to someone in Dubali and they were separated. Mariah was branded exactly two years after she arrived in Uvblanda. For a year, Mariah struggled to escape. She finally was able to get out by disguising herself as a boy and stowing away on the ship of the Arvandian Spiders crew. She spent two years jumping up the ranks and reaching first mate, while still disguised as a male. She tried to convince the captain of that ship to find the people who had taken her and Esperanza, so she could kill them. They never did, for Esperanza finally found Mariah (around a year before the story starts). Esperanza and Mariah are still trying to find the people who took them from their home.
