Went through basic schooling, never tried to become anything other than an Ecovi, learned how to play lute from Shifters and used his lutist knowledge to teach himself how to play the electric guitar

Siren was born to a Shifter (mother) and a Terraquillan (father). He is one of the very few hybrids in the entire Forest because of the physical/social separation of all races. He and his parents lived in Terraquilla. He faced lots of discrimination for being a hybrid, mostly because the Terraquillans were very close-minded and unaccepting, much like the Harpies. His parents did their best to protect him, but it's almost impossible for a single family to win a fight against society.

The Terraquillans were also antagonistic towards Siren's ambitions of becoming an Ecovi, as a notable Terraquillan trait is the ability to seduce/charm people with one's voice. Even though Siren proved that he lacked this ability, the Terraquillans still forbade him so that he couldn't inspire the full-blooded Terraquillans to "partake in such an inferior activity."

When Siren was 10 years old, a plague struck the Terraquillans and took the life of his father. Siren and his mother moved to Shiftrea. The Shifters were more accepting of him (but still judgmental). They still lived in Terraquilla in the summer, much to Siren's distaste.

While Siren was in Shiftrea, he got caught up with a group of Bootleggers- people who illegally experience things from other dimensions. The Bootleggers were fairly harmless and fueled Siren's passion for music by allowing him to hear and see an electric guitar, but only as a memory.

Inspired by the Bootleggers, Siren tried to learn the art of morphmagic (kind of like transfiguration from HP) and create a real electric guitar. It took over a year to make the guitar. (At this point, many musicians had enchanted their lutes and other instruments to sound exactly like the instruments of this other dimension, but none had ever tried to physically create one, as it would get them in deep shit with the government.)

One day, the Terraquillans found Siren's electric guitar and were absolutely pissed. They alerted the Protector's Council of Siren's crime but Siren managed to run away before the authorities arrived. At this point, Siren was 16 years old. Siren used his Shifter skills to make himself look fully Terraquillan and made money by playing songs in taverns and marketplaces and such, gradually gaining popularity over the next 5 years until he became a full-blown superstar. By the time the PC realized that he was the very same fugitive they tried to arrest years ago, Siren had gained such a huge following that people would actually rebel if he was imprisoned.

That's basically it until he joined the Wayfarers. A lot of stuff happened after that, including romance, murder, a government conspiracy, necromancy, and his eventual death at the ripe old age of 22.

Siren has the ability to shapeshift, but only into animals and other (male) people. He rarely ever shapeshifts into other guys though, as he's awful at mimicking their personalities, speech patterns, behavior, etc. He usually only shapeshifts so he’s not looked at too weirdly when he passes through a town. His eyes remain the same when he shapeshifts. He doesn’t gain the magical powers of whatever he’s shapeshifted into.
