Military, been training since childhood on his own.

Tristan grew up as a four sharded kid, as well as his mother. His dad was in the military. One day, a seven shard broke into his house, and managed to kill both his mother and father. Tristan cowered in the closet, barely able to escape death. From then on, he dedicated himself to avenging them, becoming stronger, and punishing the "evil" seven sharded people for the last and the present.
