Matthew is typically referenced to as the sun "Bright and warm but untouchable." To everyone, he seems to be there to offer a welcome hand to those who need it but outside of that he never leaves his circle of one or two friends. He's normally seen buried in schoolwork, especially before Sophie's return.

Unlike most of the student council, he brings his all to work. Keeping notes on everything takes the lead whenever he can and even takes on some of his higher-up's workloads.

He takes pride in the person he's become, often joking about how the old Matthew would easily screw up the workload he has. He tends to use others as comparison points unfortunately this can end up with him stuck in one-sided competition with said person, especially in the field of love.

He's lovesick for Sophie and is shown to have a deep, obsessive longing for her. Beyond just helping her during incidents and giving her supplies, he follows her around anytime (mainly during his route) he can and calls her every night and morning. He is willing to serve her every beg and call. In his bad ending, he grows dependent on her, to the point of going into a panic if she leaves.

Near Sophie, he gains a sense of euphoria. He attempts to keep his reliable upperclassman mask but it tends to slip. Showing him to be a bit clumsy and eccentric. He feel that he can let loose around Sophie.

When Sophie was gone, he collected all his pictures of her and listens to the phone calls he recorded.
In the other routes(save for Micheal), he serves as a romantic rival by interrupting the other's romantic moments and attacking them in his arc.

This tends to mess with several factions of Matthew's life. Aside from making Sophie feel suffocated, it also gets in the way of any of his other relationships.

He does show some restraint however and even when he hates someone, he'll smile and endure it. Not when it's required, he's not afraid to strike.

When close, he is a pretty loyal guy, like standing up for his friends against his colleuges or least giving the benefit of the doubt and helping out his friend Elliott against all the hardship he face.
