He was born to a normal family close to the edge in eastern Belorma. Around the time when he first attended primary school, his parents adopted a 10-month old baby whose name was Clara. Immediately, he was enamored by her and the prospect of having a little sister. They grew up as each other's best friend, forging a siblinghood stronger than blood.

When Marcel was 14, Caelua invaded his town. Before anyone knew the tragedy that was to come, Marcel had been requested by the neighboring elementary school to search for his little sister who had gone missing. He found her in the basement after bullies drove her into hiding. During his attempts to coax her out, the infamous Arctic Dragon conjured a spell so powerful that it froze the city's residents solid; to this day, an eternal winter continues ravaging the land. The spell only affected the surface and passed over the Dupont siblings in the basement, meaning when Marcel finally brought Clara out of hiding, they emerged from the stairwell to find the school's hallway coated in a thin layer of ice, and all its students and staff frozen to death.

Through sheer wit and careful stealth, he led his sister out of danger and fled to the closest city. With no family to take him or his sister, they had to attend a military training academy for victims such as themselves. It was there he learned how to shoot a gun and wield the halberd. His instructors quickly noticed his skill in stealth and acting, and so enlisted him in the BDAI program (Belorman Double Agent Infiltration) separate from the main facility, away from his sister. Without his permission.

Fortunately, Clara would join him in training when she became 13 through sheer determination. Four years later, the academy finally deemed them both prepared. The higher-ups believed that Magicless would make better spies because they would not be considered as big of a threat as mages in Caelua, at the cost of them being targets in the public sector. Their smooth cooperation made them suitable candidates to send out together. They were given a long-term mission to join the insurgency within Caelua and aid the insurgency, along with gathering whatever intel they can along the way regarding both the country and the insurgency.

Together, they set off to Caelua, and found a rebel base of operations in the city of Mitzen. They stayed their for the first year, during which Marcel became a certain kind of customer to the local gang...
