The Gaping Maw

Description

Glaice is a very harsh, snowy continent that is plunged into constant sunlight half the year and constant darkness the other half. Vast and jagged mountain ranges are spread out through the entire continent.

terrain

Geography

Area

Glaice is a fairly large continent that is split into four areas due to a vast river breaking through all four of the areas, creating natural borders. The immediately shoreline and ocean beyond it is covered in thick ice and glaciers form natural barriers to repel outsider travelers.

Shape

Glaice is shaped like a giant oval that gets thicker at the bottom in the right corner.

Population

250,000 people live in Glaice, though only 50,000 of them live above ground during the night season. There are 50,000 humans living on Glaice, 100,000 dwarves, 50,000 drow and 50,000 tieflings.

Topography

A single river that is 60 feet wide splits through the continent, breaking it into four sections. Jagged, large mountains take up quite a bit of land and thick forests blanket the continent.

Bodies of water

There is a giant lake located on the left side of the continent, right next to a large mountain formation.

Regional advantages

Seldom are there any invaders due to the harsh climate, glacier formations and ice covered shore.

Regional disadvantages

The land is barren and unable to produce any crops, trade is very, very uncommon and scarce due to the lack of outsiders.

Culture

Demonym

Politics

Neither of the three countries have time to fight each other or have infighting, due to the harsh climate and the daily fight for survival against the elements, creatures and starvation.

Economy

There is no economy.

Tourism

There is no tourism.

Architecture

Viking style is very popular with both the human and dwarf populations, while gothic aesthetics are popular with the drow and tiefling populations.

Reputation

Glaice has a reputation of being a mysterious continent, though people associate them as savages and believe any who go to the shores will be massacred and eaten; though the ships don't make it back home due to crashing into a glacier or freezing to death.

Humidity

It is not very humid at all.

Precipitation

Rain is uncommon but does occur sometimes in the day season. Typically, it is usually snowing either in flurries or blizzards.

Winds

It is incredibly windy in the mountain areas.

History

Discovery

It is unknown how Glaice was discovered and the citizens believe that they have always lived there. Written history is very difficult to find, as paper is scarcely made due to firewood being a far more precious resource. History has orally been told for centuries, and the amount of small skirmishes, sudden deaths and ever changing population numbers makes it difficult to keep track of the proper history of the continent.

The continent is divided into three countries: Seggrland, which is populated by humans and is a land filled with vast forests which make for great hunting; Mestrland, which is populated by dwarves and is a very mountainous area in the main part, where the dwarves utilize caves within the mountains to spend the night seasons in, and Ascania, the country of drow and tieflings that is a complete wasteland surrounded by deadly mountain ranges and a volcano on one side of the country.

One of the only joys any person living on Glaice gets, is praying to and throwing festivals for their country's respective patron and matron gods. Seggrland dedicates a few days out of the day season to travel from Crues' temple to Bevreli's temple in a week long celebration before the night season arrives. Mestrland spends two days out of the night season to pray to Wicker's temple and Mareus, the demi-god daughter of Crues. In Ascania, the drow and tiefling have a two week long festival for Demnyov, the god of demons and darkness and Thana, the demi-god daughter of Carrion.

Glaice was the only continent that the High Elves could not crusade, due to the glaciers destroying the ships before they got anywhere near the continent. The people living on Glaice are not aware of the war.
