Slayers
An elite group trained to hunt anything that goes bump in the night
Hunter
Hierarchy
The Scholars are the head of the Slayers. They take care of the Athenaeum and as such are the lifeblood of the group. After this ranking goes by age and experience. And of course each Hunter has jurisdiction in their territory so the ranking will change should another Slayer stray into it. no matter what ranking each should hold.
Members
Purpose
To protect humanity generally. Some have more specific motivations such as revenge or attempting to protect one specific person or place. Or even to gain knowledge.
To wipe out the supernatural creatures that walk the each
Hunters, while their lifespan has improved from the Great War, they are still rather short. Its rare they live to be 40. Its why the Scholars are so revered. Other risks involve series injury or disability.
Tattoos are a big one. There are common ones all fully recognized receive. Ones of power and strength and resilience . These are the ones that give the Slayer's their power. Then there are more mundane ones with more personal meaning such as a may to remember a loved one or extra ones granted by the Scholars in special cases.
They also gather once a year to present their apprentices and grant them their first mark, given by the scholars themselves. They will also gather on the solstices for a more informal meeting.
Notes
The tattoos are things that reference strength, resilience, healing,power, speed, luck in battle, a long life and foresight. Those are the standards. Others include peace, hope and several others that either will help a slayer in battle or a personal situation that can get granted by the Scholars.
