They are assigned a letter grade based on their academic performance, physical fitness, health, and magic. Those who are assigned a grade within the range of A to C is arranged to marry someone with the same letter as them. Those with D letter grades are permitted to marry, but not reproduce. Depending on why they were assigned a D grade, they may be given a second chance to raise it. However, those who are assigned a failing grade of F are permanently sterilized, and it is illegal for them to marry or raise a child.
