Overview
Tenumbrian
A mysterious, ancient people that could be likened to walking shadows. Originating from the Underbough, they are rumoured to be borne of Ghidon's dark powers, but this has not been proven due to the destruction of their ancestral home millennia ago.
Shade, Shadowfolk
Looks
Tenumbrians vary greatly in shape and size. Many often have an average or lanky build, but larger builds are not uncommon.
Tenumbrians are near-ethereal and transparent due to their bodies being comprised mainly of magical energy. Their forms take on a primarily black colour, but they can take on any tint from the colour spectrum. Brighter-coloured tenumbrians are incredibly rare.
The height of a tenumbrian ranges anywhere from 4'5" to 7' (135cm to 213cm). The average height is 5'8".
Being made up mainly of magical energy, tenumbrians are by far the lightest race, generally weighing 35-80lbs (16-36kg).
Aside from their ghostly appearance, the most distinguishable feature is their large, light-like eyes. A tenumbrian's eyes can be seen in the dark because of this. They also lack any sort of distinguishable nose or mouth, and do not possess any kind of ears. A dark mist also trails behind their bodies as well, but is completely harmless and will dissipate in seconds. Tenumbrians are also genderless and cannot reproduce like other races.
Overall, tenumbrians will vary greatly from individual to individual; from personality to body shape to everything in between. While tenumbrians can tell each other apart easily, for other races it can prove to be a challenge.
Silk, linen, and cotton fabrics are most often preferred by the tenumbrian people due to being lightweight and durable against magical energy. They are often seen wearing shawls, veils, cloaks, robes, dresses, and many other types of loose-fitting, fluid clothing. Many also choose to wear hoods to keep themselves low profile from other races.
Traits
The tenumbrian people are well versed in magic due to their bodies' deep connection with it; for most, it comes very naturally to them. They also make formidable warriors and scouts as well, as their ethereal composition makes it incredibly hard to immediately stun or stagger them with physical attacks. They also have a natural resistance to elemental-based magic and numerous status effects. They are immune to nearly every disease.
Tenumbrians are a very open-minded and intelligent race, and generally have a good handle on social etiquette/graces--even if the other party is unruly or rude to them. This developed as a need to stay on good terms with non-tenumbrian peoples.
Due to their uncertain origin and shadowy appearance, the tenumbrian people are often victim to the abuse of more fearful individuals from other races. This has caused them to be more distant and reserved as a whole, but there are some who have managed to live in harmony with the other communities. Unfortunately, those with less will may turn to more illegal means to ensure their survival, which in turn has earned them a bad reputation for being criminals, further adding to their discrimination.
In battle, it is very easy to knock back a tenumbrian due to their light weight (which in turn can stun them momentarily). They are also not impervious to magical stuns, and are more susceptible to light-based and holy magic. For a tenumbrian to be able to wield light-based magic requires many years of intensive training to be able to withstand it.
Culture
Many Tenumbrians choose not to actively worship the Gods while some do. Most remain non-religious.
Due to the absence of an ancestral home, there is no real organized government for the Tenumbrian people; it would be most aligned with anarchism or tribalism. Tenumbrians live together in groups known as a circle, looked after by a "Xihn" (translates to guardian). Circles of Tenumbrians are scattered across the land, keeping to themselves usually.
Tenumbrians are usually up to date with technology, depending on where they reside. They mostly rely on their magic for day-to-day tasking.
Their affinity with magic allows them to excel at most occupations involving it. However, many Tenumbrians choose to make a living as tailors or as researchers in various fields of study. Some Tenumbrians are also hired for various criminal activities.
Tenumbrians will either take on a socialist or syndicalist approach to their finances, which also depends on where they live and which circle they come from. Funds made by Tenumbrians are often split across their circles.
Tenumbrian cuisine is considered rather otherworldly, as oftentimes there is varying amounts of magic in the food. Pastries and baked goods are common favourites, especially those made with fruits. Tenumbrians also have a knack for making delicious alcoholic beverages from fruit.
Notes
Shade and Shadowfolk are names the tenumbrian people find offensive to different degrees. "Shadowfolk" is more often used by older individuals to refer to tenumbrians either with neutral or hostile undertones. "Shade" is considered unpardonable due to it being used as form of oppression toward them during the Agian occupation.
