Notes
Friar’s Gate is a religious settlement and iron mine at the base of the impenetrable Dakkur Bodden mountains. Those who venture beyond it are never heard from again. The friars who live in the Abby worship the stars, which they believe responsible for the iron in the mountains. Stars fall into the mountains and become iron. During the autumn, every three years, there are weeks where one can witness the stars fall to earth every night. There is a great temple to the Star Gods where people come to worship and give offerings to the Gods and to the Friars and Silver Sisterhood. They believe that their gods remain in pairs, so the stars that fall are both masculine and feminine. The meteors have light as they fall (female) and recovered meteors have iron (male). They worship both equally. Because of this, people that are married under the star gods wear iron or steel rings. Men wear a steel ring set with a crystal (given by his bride) to represent her claim to him and women wear a steel ring set with a chunk of raw iron (given by her groom) to represent his claim to her. The ring is worn on the middle finger.
The friars of the Falling Star, also known as the Iron Friars, at Friar's Gate are responsible for the mining and processing of iron. They make iron cookware, building hardware and steel weapons, armor, and such.
The Silver Sisterhood at Friar's Gate is an elite group of priestesses’ who represents the feminine side of the stars, the starlight itself. 3 is their holy number, so there are 3 levels of the priestesses. They track the stars, make predictions, bless families/ people, are the healers and midwives, and are the only ones allowed to track and find the falling stars (meteors).
Sustainability
They hunt, grow their own crops, raise livestock.
The Blushing river runs through and they use this water power. Animals are also used to turn wheels. Humans on tread wheels.
Everything is recycled.
They invented the filtration system for human waste that is used by many big cities and towns.
