Overview
Enigma
A story about Jack and his companions trying to prevent Armageddon.
Action, Adventure, Fantasy
History
Enigmas have been around since the first murder committed by Cain. The very first Enigma was Able who became the Enigma of death. Cain later became the Enigma of War.
In modern times, Earth has been ravaged by a third World War for 30 years, it had only ended recently but a lot of the US was plunged into a deep depression and dark age. Technology and Society has regressed back many decades. Communications between countries are nonexistent and immigration, while still legal, is hard to do. Most immigrants are treated as second class citizens and a lot disguise their place of origin. Germans, since the country is to blame for the war, are some of the more harshly treated.
Also, despite Enigmas being treated now as folktales and only few possessing them, an ancient cult has come back and is currently kidnapping immigrants and forcefully possessing them with Enigmas causing them to go berserk and cause property damage.
Because of all this, God has left this world and has plunged them into the beginning of Armageddon.
The origins of Enigmas themselves come from the murder of Able, who became the Enigma of Death, the first Horseman.
There was also Cain who became the Enigma of War, and then the Enigma of Pestilence which who's identity cannot be determined but they go by "Eve"
Rules
Physics work the same as our universe unless an Enigma can manipulate them.
All magic is preformed through Enigmas. While there are no real elements connected to each of these, Enigmas fall under one of four suits; club, spade, heart, diamond. It corresponds with a horseman.
Club beats Diamond

The technology in Enigma at its lowest is like early 1900's technology and at its highest steam powered or electricity. Cell phones do exist but they are primitive and the internet does not exist anymore to the normal populous.

Enigmas
War- War goes by the name Cain, Kain, or Cane. It takes the form of a red unicorn with a curved horn. It attaches to particularly violent individuals and can cause the Enigmatic to harm themselves to the point of scarring. This Enigma is known to be arrogant and easily agitated. When activated the Enigmatic will sprout a horn similar to the mist’s from the center of their forehead. Usually it is accompanied by a cry of pain and a spurt of blood. It’s passive effect is causing immense blood lust to anyone in the general vicinity of it. People affected by this obey the Enigma and do not attack it or the host even if commanded to. These people are referred to as Warriors. It is believed despite being a passive effect the Enigma has some control over this.
Pestilence- Pestilence goes by the alias Eve. It takes the form of a bicorn and its color is yellow. It prefers hosts who have medical experience or have been horribly sick. Throughout history it has shown to manipulate sick children, saying they will cure the child. The host usually gets horribly sick but never dies despite symptoms. The Enigmatic is always unwilling unless lied to, then they are regretful. Pestilence is playful and cannot be trusted, it is considered a pathological liar. Its passive effect is a thick mist, smelling like gasoline, that inhibits cognitive abilities. Prolonged exposure can lead to memory loss, loss of motor functions, and eventually death. The Enigma prefers not to fully take over the host, unlike its companions, but instead finds joy in the host watching as people die around them. It has only fully activated once in recorded history and when activated the Enigmatic will sprout ram horns, much like the mist. It has another effect where it can control others, turning them into “nurses”, it is unsure how this works. Nurses are considered possessed by the Enigma as well and will attack and infect others through biting. Nurses are considered corpses and the victims of it cannot be saved. It is believed they die once infected.
Death- Death goes by Able and takes the form of a normal horse but lacks eyes, its color is green. This Enigma attaches to anyone living though likes hosts who have experienced loss and grief. The Enigmatic eventually starts decaying and dying, they are also usually an unwilling host. Its personality is humble and polite, it does not like to be labeled as evil nor good. When activated the Enigmatic will sprout horse ears and the decaying spots of them will release black smog. It’s passive effect is rapid rotting to anything living and corrosion to anything artificial. The Enigma is considered weak both in defense and attack, defense can vary based on host’s decay, but it uses psychological attacks on its enemies. Being touched by it while activated causes instant death.

An Enigma must be represented by a suit, animal, and color. The color isn't important but the suit and animal are somewhat. Only powerful Enigmas are represented by fantasy animals.
An Enigma must have been a living human once and must be connected to a host and share a similarity whether obvious or not. It cannot remember what it looked like nor its name or other Enigmas' original names.
When they are first activated they have a high chance to go berserk if the ritual was done incorrectly. They can provide latent powers before this but this is their awakening. When active Enigmas take over their host's personality, give them corresponding animal ears and tails (or other features), and slightly alter their outfit.
Enigmas are beings that were once human and alive, they died one way or another but their will surpassed death and they became Enigmas. Enigmas can only live through hosts, or formally known as Enigmatics, that share similar qualities to them. Usually the relationship is equal but some Enigmas can overtake their hosts and hosts can overtake their Enigmas. It's best to keep a healthy relationship, despite it not being the most powerful.
