Dracula Chapter 2

group

Waiting outside someone's house (or castle, in this case) is awkward.

group

Dracula's first official appearance.

group

So far he's being a great host!

group

"I have dined already, and I do not sup."

The first part wouldn't have bothered me, but the latter portion would've made me suspicious of Dracula.

group

Mr. Hawkins definitely has a massive amount of confidence in Jonathan. His letter tells me that Harker is a hard worker and quite diligent in his work.

group

Oh look, more food!

group

Honestly though, that is something that I'd eat.

group

And there I go looking up wine again…. Tokay (also spelled tokaji) is a sweet wine that is common in the Carpathian regions.

Physiognomy - noun

  1. A person's facial expression, especially when regarded as indicative of character or ethnic origin.
  2. The supposed art of judging character from facial characteristics.
  3. The general form or appearance of something.
group

Count Dracula has had time to gain wealth and acquire such lavish furnishings.

group

I envy that library collection.

group

Ah yes, the English language. It's quite difficult to learn and understand. Even someone that is fluent can have issues, especially when it comes to writing in English! Lots of words and grammar rules, multiple dialects, words that are spelled exactly the same way yet pronounced differently with different meanings…. It's enough to drive one mad!

group

"You may go anywhere you wish in the castle, except where the doors are locked."

Is Dracula also Bluebeard?

group

The Carfax estate sounds more like a palace!

group

Vampires and their lack of reflection. :-)

group

Well, that was quite rude, Drac. For all you know that pocket mirror could've been a gift or something.

group

Or the Count likes dining alone…. 😉😉🧛‍♂️😅

group

Harker just realized that he's not actually a guest, but a prisoner!

Dracula Chapter 3

group

Well, at least the Count's being a fairly kind ho- I mean jailer!

Ah yes, a crucifix, garlic, mountain ash, and wild rose; all great things to have when facing your traditional vampyre!

group

In his speaking of things and people, and especially of battles, he spoke as if he had been present at them all.

Probably because he was, Jon-boy!

group

Honfoglalas?

group

Oh…. The conquest of the Carpathian Basin, aka the Pannonian Basin by the Hungarians, which is still part of modern-day Hungary.

group

I am now calling what is today the country of Turkey, Turkeyland…. Unless it is offensive in someway.

group

I'm amazed that Harker was able to remember that speech from Drac!

group

Oh hey, literary references! (Arabian Nights and the play Hamlet.)

group

I'm hoping that you're hiding your journal, Jon-boy, otherwise you're screwed. Not real smart to write down your plans or things that may or may not help you later on.

group

No, no. By all means let's not mislead our captor on legal matters!
Mislead him, you daft idiot!

group

I'm wondering if "Mr. Peter Hawkins" is somehow a thrall of Dracula's.
