Auretta was so confused. “I- What?!” she looks between Frēa and Valerie. “Huh?!”

Frēa and Val laugh. "Don't worry it's just as confusing for us as it is for you."

Auretta tears up. “I…” she looks between Frēa and Valerie again. “I-“

Nori crosses his arms. “Well?? Who are you then??!”

"I'm still me," they say. "I'm still me."

Nori sighs, looking at the two, then sits down. He rests his head in his hands, thinking. “This is all so… weird.”

Auretta sits next to Nori, sighing. “Yeah…it is…” she mumbles.

"If it helps," Frēa says, "I could assume Valerie's form."

Auretta nods. “If you really think it will help…” she sighs.

Nori nods. “Yeah. Yeah I think so.”

Auretta nods. “Okay…” she mumbles, looking around.

Frēa nods, and in a flash, she's gone. In her place stands Val. She runs at Auretta and wraps her in a hug. "Frēa swapped places with me, somehow. I'm back, truly and fully."

Auretta hugs Val tightly, tears still forming in her eyes. “Never do that again…” she whimpers.

"Okay… okay…" Val says, having 0 intention to follow through with not giving her life away again to save her friends.

“I-If it ever gets that bad again…just…just think of a different plan-“ Auretta sobs, clinging to Val.

Nori hugs her tightly. "God.. I was so scared."

"Auretta, you were dying and nobody could do anything about it. I couldn't do anything but give you my life." Val sighs.

Nori looks at Auretta, fear in his eyes. "Dying??"

“I-I could’ve pushed through- You-“ Auretta cuts herself off by sobbing again. She doesn’t answer Nori’s question.

"No, you really couldn't. You would have faded away. Do you understand? My power is the only thing keeping you alive. The only special things about me now are my wings and my appearance. I have no more light left in me." Val says, leaning away from Auretta to get a better look at her face.

Auretta looks down. “Then…then take it back…” she mumbles. “I’ll find some other way…”

"NO. I will not leave you to die." Val snarls.

Nori growls, eyes dilating. "SHUT UP!!" He flaps his wings violently. "Just stop. We can find a different way."

Auretta goes silent, staring at the ground. “…Sorry, Nori…” she mumbles.

Val looks over, her look softening. "Nori… we all know there is no other way to keep her alive. Wren, an interdimensional being, couldn't even heal her. I'm surprised I managed to."

Nori makes a horrendous sound, like an overgrown eagle, as lightning erupts from the sky. "NO."

“There has to be another way,” Auretta snaps. “I can’t take your powers! It’s not right!!”

Death himself has to intervene at this point, a towering 24-foot-tall being of smoke coalescing into existence. Auretta's life… was forfeit, until Valerie Soluna sacrificed herself to save her. There can be no turning back, now, Noriaki Ito. These are the Old Laws. Val jumps, then nods. "Exactly."

Auretta glares at Death. “NO! THERE HAS TO BE A DIFFERENT WAY!” she shouts, tears forming in her eyes. “I WILL NOT ALLOW IT TO BE LIKE THIS!”

It is too late, Auretta Plane-Touched. Death says. Val watches this.
